Bridal Portraits?

Hi all,
I read in my Bridal Bargains book taht  some brides choose to get a formal portrait taken of just them in their wedding dress weeks before the wedding.  Apparently the practice is very popular in the South.  I know my mom got one when she got married in Pennsylvania but that was in the late 1950s.  I really like the idea and was wondering if any of the brides here have gotten one or if any of the BTB plan to.  If so, did you just go to your photographer or someone different that specializes in portrait photography.  Thanks!

Sorry, I don't see the point if you will have lots of pics in your gown that day anyways.

If I was to do this I would contact my photog for it.

my photog offers this option for the wonderful price of $600.  to me its not worth it to have an entire session.  most photogs will do whatever you want. so maybe just express your interest in having some 'self' pictures the day of your wedding.   but hey, if you can find it for a good price and its important to you/your family, then do it.  its your wedding :)

It's definitely a southern thing.  I went to school in Virginia, and went to some southern weddings.  They had the bridal portraits up at the reception.  It's nice, but I don't think it's necessary.

It's still a big tradition in the South, and typically the bride's parents keep whatever large portrait is displayed at the reception. My friends who have had them done (I also went to school down south) had their hair and make-up trials that day, and then put on their dress and had the portraits done. Some used the photographer, and some went somewhere like Olan Mills. Do we even still have Olan Mills up here anymore?

Unless this is something you really want, I agree with B2B that you can just request specific pictures on the day-of.

And they're the five best friends that anyone could have, the five best friends that anyone could have! Photobucket
