Sorry that I'm making a separate thread for this vent. It is kind of an extension to my other vent in the confessions/vents thread but with new developments.
Just got an e-mail from our baker that she never received our contract and deposit! Apparently we just have a check for $200+ floating around who knows where. Of course, no one can cash it unless they have the exact same name as this baker, so I think we're good there.
The problem is that FI never realized that he needed to make sure he was setting aside that money and not using it for other things...and he didn't. And we're already scraping this month because I'm going to be off work for two weeks (tonsillectomy on Monday) and FI's hours have been cut way down all month. BLAH there goes my dreams of no credit card debt (assuming the bakery will allow a deposit via credit card...if not, I don't know what we're going to do!)
Well, time to go sell a kidney. Just kidding (maybe).

Wedding Bio
this all sucks, LOL.
I wish you well on your surgery. Like lots of kids in the 60's, I already had this done. Best to get it done now though, since my 85 year old dad is dealing with a bad sore throat and enflamed tonsils at HIS age right now.
As for the baker, the check will show up. We created a wedding savings account at my bank, and since I bank online, I can transfer funds back and forth. Sadly, I've had to "tap into it" a few times for my own expenses, but we've also built it up gradually with new funds, and I've tried to replace the funds in it when I can.
Also, *most* vendors are pretty relaxed about their payments and contracts. I still haven't given a signed contract and check to our caterer, but I know they have the date set aside, and are so busy dealing with other clients they are very forgiving.
Good luck on the finances. It's a tough time for many, but things will always work out.
