Help! My sister HATES the bridesmaid dresses.

I just picked out my bridesmaid dresses and my sister/ maid of honor hates them.

I think the problem is that the other brides maides are 18 and 24 (I am having 3 total) and she is scared the dress is to young for her. (she is turning 30). I can see her point and was thinking because she is the moh I could find a dress in the same color that would be more age appropiate for her. Does anyone have any ideas how I can do this with out making it look weird? Do you think it will be possible to match fabrics?

I'd look and see if there are other BCBG dresses that are more appropriate for her in the same color. I also wouldn't want to wear something that short. If not, find a coordinating color even if it is not exactly the same (maybe an entirely different shade of blue, a purple or another color you're using in your wedding).

I agree with her - that dress looks WAY too young, even for a 24 year-old. I'm 26 and I would feel very uncomfortable in that. My sister is 22 and very stylish, and I still cannot picture her wearing that as someone's bridesmaid.

Plus, you shouldn't be picking out dresses on their behalf. You should be including them in the selection process. You can absolutely have the final say on the dress that your BMs will wear, but since they are the ones wearing the dresses (and, I assume, paying for them), then it is only fair to let them try some different things on and see what they like and what looks nice on them.

But like MoneyPenny said, see if the same designer has some more mature dresses, and maybe that will be a good compromise.

Dude, I'm 23 and I'd be uncomfortable in a dress that short, especially at a wedding. I would let her look through the other dresses by the same designer and find something that she would feel comfortable in. I wouldn't worry too much about matching fabrics, unless she chooses something super shiny, the difference won't be noticeable.

They are wearing jackets and we are letting out the hem to add length. The problem with having them help me is that all the brides maids are students (undergrad/ or graduate) and live in different states. The one that I was able to see did try on the dress and liked it.

I am going to loook at the designer to see if they have something that will work.

I have also thought about buying fabric and having a dress made. Is that a terrible idea?

yea, I'm 25 and I think that dress is too young for me. and imo, it's way too short for a wedding--inappropriate. ask your BMs to pick out some stuff they like, or if they could give you guidelines for what they would like--budget, neckline, skirt length, color, etc.

I don't think it is. my best friend did this when she got married. it turned out pretty easy and much cheaper than buying a dress off the rack, believe it or not (depending on the fabric used and the seamstress' prices). I almost did this when I had a hard time finding dresses that my BMs could afford and liked.

PreppySailor I really like that dress.

I feel alot better today. I sent my sister about 6 dresses for her to see what she thought and she did not like one. I am goint to keep trying but ....I am eventually going to run out of time.

Abby,
I love the dresses!! My sister is having a prolem with the BM dresses because she doesnt thik she will look good in the colors. I sucked it up for her wedding so she can do the same for me.
