Wedding Invitation Cost. whats normal??

so my wedding is June 25, 2011- i just started looking at invitations and save the dates and what not. I found a package on davids bridal which contains 125 invitations with envelopes with return address, 125 rsvp cards, 125 save the date magnets with envelopes and return address, and 125 multi use card which im going to put the hotel information on for 600$. Its a really cute design and i even added in sets of extra envelope for each thing that will be sent back. Is this reasonably priced or way out there? im clueless here ! thanks!

That price seems ok-- not the cheapest you will find but not out of this world either. I wouldn't commit to anything this ealy though-- you could change your mind on a lot of things!

Mine were about $400-450 for 250 square, pocket fold invitations by Carlson Craft.  See Planning bio for photos.  I bought them online through Paper Elegance (a Colorado-based company)- over $100 cheaper than the same invitations throguh a local vendor.  The woman I worked with there was wonderful, and we went through several proofs until everything looked just right.  Postage can be pricey too, though, so be sure to factor that into your total cost (I didn't include it in the figure above).

Although there is a huge range out there, I think "average" is probably in the $2-4/invitation (not including postage).  Postage can be $0.44-0.95 for most invitations (depending on the size & weight).  You can find invites for less than $1/each, or over $10/each.

I agree with pp though that you might change your mind on your style, so you might not want to purchase quite yet, unless you know FOR SURE that's what you want.  Originally we wanted to have our wedding brown & blue...we did our engagement announcements in those colors, and I picked out an entire suite WAY in advance.  As we got closer to our wedding though, our vision changed, and I ended up DIYing our invitations (brown & ivory), and totally LOVED them--even though they were very different from what we originally wanted.

    HTH!

Yay! Finally able to update my signature :)

I bought several kits at staples and added my own few parts with paper I bought there as well (reception invite, accomodations card, directions card, and an extra card for family members telling them when and where we're doing family pictures). Before printing, everything costs $240. I'm trying to figure out which would be cheaper, going to staples and having it print, or paying for ink cartridges and printing at home. But either way, max printing is about $100. So total I'm paying $340 for 350 invites! I'm sure that's cheaper than most people because I'm doing most of it myself but just so you know your options! For what I saw, nice, printed-for-you invites can be around the $600 mark but I personally wouldn't spend that much- that's about $4.80 per invite!

    Either way, good luck!

By the way, thanks for giving me the opportunity to think through it :-). I actually might save myself some hassle and money and go to staples to have it printed! Woo hoo!

Mine cost less than $100 for 100 and that included all the inserts.  Got them from an etsy seller

We paid $1600 for all the paper- custom designed invites with inserts and belly band and pre-printed return address (all pre-essembled), RSVPs, thank you cards and envelopes with pre-printed return address, bi-fold programs with ribbon, escort cards, table names, signs, etc. The paper was all cream card stock with metallic matte backing.

The other paper places I met with were between this number and double, I was quoted up to $3000. However, I did this in NYC, so it may be the NYC inflation, haha.

I think it depends on how much YOU want to spend for invitation-- thats really the only indication of what is normal.  If you have $1000 to spend on stationery, it's because you felt that $1000 is worth it, and therefore budgeted for that much-- so thats normal! :)   If you love the davids bridal ones for $600, then thats normal too!

... it does sound like, depending on your design, that etsy might be a good place to check too.

    Good luck!

I'd definitely shop around, there is quite a range in pricing.  And I agree with PP, wait a bit to order them.  I had totally picked out the perfect invites about 1.5 years in advance, and then by the time it came to order (about 6 mos in advance) I totally changed my mind and went with something else that I had found more recently.  We spent about $3 per invite.

A few good places to look:

Our invites from Wedding Paper Divas were about $3 apiece and included flat card with envelope, response card with envelope and an info card. Get on their mailing list, and you'll recieve info on all of their killer sales.

Our save-the-dates were about $0.50 apiece from Shutterfly. I wasn't thrilled with them, but it wasn't that important of a detail to me, so whatever.

    IMO, that's alot.

We paid $375 for 125 invites (and all that goes with it)+ an additional 15 envelopes. Our person gave us a 20% discount, so if your person isn't giving you that then you should look elsewhere.

Which ones did you order. Plus I am finding that website to be a little difficult to navigate. Help  please! :(
