Minnesota-Minneapolis and St. Paul

Science Museum

Has anyone been to/had a reception or event at the MN Science Museum? I really like the Elements Cafe room. I just wanted to see if anyone had used it before and how the staff was to work with. Thanks!

I'm jealous! They were out of our budget, but I love that building.... Good luck!

I used to cater their, and have seen some amazing weddings their! I would splurge, if you can and get the ceiling draperies, it is such a dramatic change. other helpful hints: plan around downtown Saint Paul's fireworks displays! with that, if you can get married in a warmer season so you can have fun out on the deck, it is a nice escape from the room and the views are great.

HUmm what else? another fun thing is to take pictures within the exhibits, take advantage of that!  do you want to know anything else? --OH try not to have it the same night as a wild game or anyother major event at the Excel...parking can get bad, and the rates at the holtel could be a little higer depending on what the event is for...maybe?

A coworker of mine had his reception there. He frequently highly recommended it when I was first engaged and planning. He said he got a lot of great comments from guests, and that he fealt it was more memorable than a hotel for example.

I loved that space!  Very unique and the view is awesome!  I would have went with it, but we really wanted a space where we could have our ceremony and our reception in the same place.  The room is awesome there, I'd say go for it!

We have the same caterer Lancer Catering :)

Thank you so much ladies! I haven't been able to visit it yet, I've just been looking at pictures on line and plan on seeing in a few weeks. (I'm still in school out of state until May so for now its all idea gathering) I'll certainly check the event schedule in the area, I never would have thought of that, and I'm hoping its nice outside so I use the balcony. I'm thinking April 2011 so it should be warmed up by then! Love the ceiling draperies too! :-)

I'm probably having my reception here (still in the investigative stage). Lancer Catering has very reasonable rates and, so far, the staff from both the museum and Lancer have been very responsive and professional. I'm planning our wedding from out-of-town, so reliable communication is a HUGE deal.

One of my college friends is a curator there. He said that the corporate events he's attended have been tasteful and unique. The Elements Cafe is a sort-of blank canvas that, with a little fabric and some creative lighting, can become anything you want it to be. Just be preparred to rent fabric, place settings, a dance floor, etc. It's not as budget-friendly as an event center; however, your guests get a free pass to the museum. About 40% of my guests are from out of town or out of the country, so they'll appreciate the nudge toward a local activity.

Just remember to call or email to set up an appointment as soon as you have a budget and an idea of what you want. The Science Museum is a popular location for corporate events, too, so you'll need to book well in advance to guarantee availability.
