Who buys wedding party accessories?

There's this website dessy.com. (It's awesome.) Basically they have everything you can think of for accessories but you can coordinate everything by swatches. So of course I have already gone through and filled up my cart with bridesmaids' purses, groomsmens' ties and pocket squares. But is it weird for me to buy these things for the wedding party? Could I make these as part of their "gifts?" I'd rather just do it this way so that everyone has the same color green in their outfit but at the same time, I'm on a budget and I don't want my excitement to get the best of me. Thoughts?

  • you can definitly make it part of their gift. it cuts their expenses. if you invision everyone matchy-matchy, then it is kind of on your part to pay for this. it can also be a fun memory piece for your bridal party to remember your wedding by, and its items that only your bridal party has at your wedding, which can be really fun :) it can take stress of your bridal party on how to look, and allow them to relax and have fun!

    I agree, I LOVE dessy!

No.  You can buy them their accessories if you want, but they're part of the required uniform, not gifts for them.  It doesn't even really offset their costs, because they might already have something that works.

For the record, I'm not a fan of matching purses.  I think coordinating looks better than matchy-matchy, and the purse is going to be in the bridal room for the ceremony and at the table for the reception, so it's not like it's actually going to be a significant part of their outfit.
This is a neglected planning bio.
This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • Just a thought... Were you planning on renting tuxes for the guys?  Buying ties and everything for them will just end up costing you money and you won't even be able to use them.

  • A gift for your BP should be something that is just for them and is their taste.  It is not a gift if you're fulfilling your vision.

  • No, parts of their ensemble for your wedding are not their gifts.

Don't waste your money on purses to match the dresses. They'll only be used for the wedding, and they will barely be used that day anyway. Let them carry their own purses, or buy a neutral color (black, silver) someplace.

If you get them all an individual, personal, heartfelt item that THEY will enjoy and use in everyday life, and you really want to throw in a purse so they don't have to spend their own money on it, fine. But don't say, "Here's a purse to match the dress I'm having you wear for my wedding, and I'm going to be awesome and let you keep it as a gift afterward! Isn't that great?" That's like working at Dairy Queen and getting to keep the staff shirt in lieu of a paycheck.
