What is the most important part of your wedding budget? The venue? Dress? food? Photography? And why?

For me, it was the venue. I didn't think it would be but for as long as I can remember, the landmark center has been an ultimate dream to get married there. I'm so happy I was able to secure my date there! Photography and food are very close seconds!

    Food and beverages for our guests.  Then photog/videographer a close second.  Hence the splurge on Capture Studios.  We fell in love the PEC at first site and can't wait to have our wedding there!

    For me it was the venue as well...I have always dreamed about getting married at this place and it just seems right as I actually met FI at a wedding that was held at our venue 4 years ago.

    AAbrahams-- You've probably said before, but where is your venue?

    I keep trying to convince my mom that the landmark center is pretty enough in itself that we need very little decoration. She keeps getting caught up in linens and such, haha.

    Our reception will be held at Northfork in Ramsey. I think it was the valuted ceilings that got me.  :)

    Food and Beverages even after putting half our budget there, we still couldn't afford an open bar which was kind of a bummer. Our circle expects that though and are delighted that we are hosting, beer, wine and pop for the kids and non drinkers.

    I had to google the place, but very pretty & the ceilings definitely are gorgeous, aabrahams! :)

    Shan-- I know what you mean. I think we are gonna be doing beer & wine hosted, but I have no doubt people will be just fine with that. :)

    Aside from DH (cuz without him, the whole wedding thing probably wouldn't have happened, ha), I would actually have to say my dress! Being the girly girl that I am, the SECOND we got engaged I went crazy online and buying mags basically just looking at all of the pretty dresses. I had found several that I liked...but there was this ONE that I kept going back to. My mom, having raised the girly girl that I am, pretty much did the same thing. She called me up one day saying she had seen a really great dress for me, and I told her that I had found one too, so we e-mailed eachother pics of the dresses. Yeah, it was THE SAME ONE. Granted, we lived in different states at the time and hadn't even really talked about dresses yet, since it was so early in the process!! 

    Really early on, my mom and I did an initial dress trip just to get an idea of what styles might actually look good on me, so that I could go from there and narrow my search. The dress that I (and my ma) kept going back to in pictures happened to be stocked at Mestad's when we went, so I decided to try it on. Here I was, 2 years before the actually wedding would be taking place, wearing THE ONE. I had never expected to find one that soon, and I was certain I would change my mind a million times, but I didn't! We waited to buy it, just in case, but the truth is, that dress really set the stage for everything else and REALLY inspired basically the entire wedding, lol. Without the dress, I might have done completely different colors, patterns, theme, etc!

    The food!  Most important to FI and I.  We ultimately let our parents have the final say (they are both paying for the bulk of the wedding) so we went with Lake Elmo Inn, which had the best food of any of the places we went to. Our venue was pretty easy, but it also was important.  I have dreamed about getting married in my Grandmother's backyard since she built the house and FI and I met and fell in love in St. Croix County.  I also LOVE my dress, and am so thankful to get to share that process with my mom.

    I think ours is going to be the travel.  I want it to be somewhere really beautiful.

    We're going to have to enlist our parents to make sure pictures are taken, so no photography budget. 

    Idk yet, small wedding is a whole new world to me at this point!

    I think the most important part for me was the venue. I love love love the city of Minneapolis so being about to look down at it from the top of the IDS town and get BEAUTIFUL views was so increadibly perfect.

    id say for me is photographer..... then video / venue.... lol!  and somewhere in there my dress but im not willing to spend a ton on a dress..

    It is interesting to read everyone's different perspectives on what is important, :) For me, the dress was totally low on the list, even though it was the first thing I bought--just a total chance that it happened that way. I never imagined that I would get the type of dress that I got, for such a good deal. I love wedding dresses, but have never obsessed over that part of wedding planning. heh.

    Bimbi-- That is so funny that you and your mom picked the same dress without knowing it, but also really cute. :)

    Im the same way... dress wise... i set a limit of 400 for a dress... for me the cheaper the better!.... lol.... it is interesting to see whats the most important to people :)

    Have you checked out consignment bridal at all? That is how I got my dress. It was originally retailed as $1800 but it was a sample from last season so I got it for $350 or so. Such a steal!

    For me, I think it will end up being a tie between the venue and the music. The parts of weddings that I remember most are always the parts where we're dancing! I've been to a couple of weddings that had really great food and what not, but the music was terrible and no one danced, and I don't remember those weddings as much. Plus I'm super crazy about music (singing in a band will do that to ya) - I think that's part of the planning process that will turn me into a bit of a bridezilla, heh.

    And the venue is top of my list now just because I got to tour the PEC in December, and absolutely loved it. And to top it all off, my parents loved it, including my dad, who even after seeing the minimums thought it was a great venue! Score! And I know you're not supposed to really plan things before you get engaged, but I'm expecting it to happen sometime soon, and I wanted to be able to book the PEC ASAP, so that's why I toured it when I was home in December (I live in Philly). Just to explain a bit so I don't get flamed for pre-planning, heh. Smile

    This is tough- the top three for me were venue, photography, and my dress. Hard to pick which one was more important! These were some of the very first things that were picked and set the stage for everything else

    Wow, I guess the key was staying within the budget for me.  I got lucky and was happy with most items I found within the budget.  The one thing I guess I ever dreamed of was the flowers.  (sunflowers and daisies).

    It's a tie between DJ and food and the dress.  I just want to look and feel like a princess on my day, and I want it to be about me. :).  The food, becuase there have been so many times I have gone to weddings and months later all you hear about was how crappy the food was.  And the DJ.  Again after going to weddings people remember how much fun they had dancing.  And songs that were played all night.  I want my guests to have the BEST time and tons of fun.

    The most important has been an overall look and feel. We want the wedding to be fun and work overall. This of course means I think everything is REALLY important and the FI tries to keep me in budget. Venue was important, food, drinks, and my dress. I love my dress so beyond words. Seriously a dream dress. Smile

    Flowers were high up there for me as well. I wanted a garden feel indoors, but still stuck to our budget. Although I feel like its extreme because flowers are used less and less in/at weddings. :)

    I'd say the venue was really important to us.  We wanted something that was very "us", & went we're comfortable with.  An all wood chalet with a huge stone fireplace, was PERFECT for us!  = )

    The photographer. We picked him for his unique way of photographing, and are SO excited to have him. Pictures last a life-time!

    For me it was the venue. I really wanted an open, modern space to set the tone. (we chose the Carlson Towers Rotunda) A close second was the dress though! I had sooo much fun working on that part!

    Venue was tops for us and honestly I get more and more excited about it by the day. It really set the tone for the whole event and vendors for us.

    Food is most important to us. We want to give our guests a really good meal to thank them for celebrating our marriage with us. Photographer was second. I want some amazing pictures to look back on.
