Wedding Invitations & Paper

Save the dates!

We are getting married December 7th, 2013.  (so far away, ugh!) Anyways, since it is a holiday wedding and it is a pretty busy time of the year. How soon is too soon to send out save the dates? I wanted to send them out around this Christmas since our engagement pictures were holiday themed.....I thought that this would give people plenty of time to plan and it would be cute considering its a Christmas wedding. I will still be sending out our invitations around the normal time. I just didnt want people to get them and think, ummm this is a year away? Any thoughts?

Re: Save the dates!

  • I think a year away is too early...are all of you e-pictures holiday themed? Maybe use those for your Christmas card. I believe the typical time to send STDs is 6 months- I think I may send ours 7 months though... maybe talk to your photog about doing a mini session, like a 1/2 hr. in the spring to get a few different shots...
  • Usually STDs are sent out 6-9 months ahaed of time.  I think a year is a little too early.  You could always send out a Christmas card and then sent out STDs in the spring.
  • Normal time frame of 6-9 months applies. My wedding is December 29, we sent STD's in June. Most people that had to make travel arrangements already knew the date by then anyway (so if that's a concern, you could always word-of-mouth it earlier.)

  • Yeah, I guess you all are right. We actually had pictures taken on the beach where he propsed but also have some more winter/holiday themed ones on his farm. I just thought it would be cute to use a holiday themed one. I'm just so excited that I almost wish I was getting married this December! :) Thanks for all the advice!

I would still LOVE to send out a Christmas card using our holiday themed picture but would it be weird to maybe make that like an engagement announcement? Not necessarily a save the date?

I think it depends on your situation. Will hotels in your area be limited? Are there several events that occur in your area near your date? And with it being near the holidays, I agree that it's a bit busier and potentially more expensive for your guests...

If you answered yes to all of the above, I'd say consider sending them about 10 mos out (so February?) but a year is a little bit too early.
