Registering

FI and I are registering tonight, and as silly as this sounds, we have no idea where to go other than Target. I know there are several places that have the option to register, I just wanted your opinions on your experience. TIA

Have fun! I don't have any experience but I know my FI and I are planning on registering at Target, Bed Bath and Beyond and possibly Jcpennys.

Other options:  Macys, Wal-Mart, Kohls, Herbergers.

We registered at Crate and Barrel, and plan on registering at Bed, Bath, and Beyond and/or Target.

Also a couple suggestions for you on the higher end: Williams sonoma, Sur La Table

We just did Target.  Then one day while I was bored at work I added more fun stuff online from Macys :)

Does he need tools or any manly stuff like that? I know FI had considered doing a Sears registry, but then decided not to.

We did Kohl's and Bed, Bath and Beyond and Target... I really don't like having this many registries though! It is hard to manage and I feel like the stuff we really need/want will get missed. We just didn't have any luck at Kohl's, I should just get rid of that one! Bed, Bath and Beyond is where we had the best luck with a variety of items and price points.

    We did BBB and Macy's.

I went with Macy's because I have their credit card which qualified us for some extra rewards (ie. they give you a Macy's Gift Card for 10% of the total value of purchased registry gifts and give you 20% off the remaining items. ) They also had fiestware which is the dishware I picked and LOVE.

We picked Bed Bath and Beyond because I didn't like Macy's selection on bedding and bath stuff. We also got a ton of decor and other random stuff (Iron Man Bar, Doggie Grooming Kit, Emergency Kits etc.) BBB is pretty reasonable but their completion discount only counts if you go to a registry party on a certain day, time in bloomington. A nice thing about BBB, if a guests goes off registry they add it so it's easier to return if you don't like it.

Just some food for thought, HTH!

We did BB&B, Target, and Kohls. We have mostly OOT guests, so we wanted to make sure that we picked stores that most have access to and were not too expensive. The first 2 are really easy to manage online. Kohls is a little harder to use-- there are more steps to actually get to your stuff to edit it.

I've heard a good thing about BBB is that they ship to the bride and groom for free!

Thank you for all of your help!!  I don't think I have even been into a BBB and after looking at their website, I think we just might have to stop in there. Luckily, they just opened a store down the road from me. Does Target have a completion discount? How about BBB?
  • edited December 2011
We did one at Kohl's and then switched to BBB because of their better selection. BBB does have completion gifts, both for just registering for items and also for people buying items. Their website is huge too!

And we also did Sears for the tools and outdoor stuff. I'm not impressed with their website/registry section, but it's sufficient.

Registering was definately more work and less fun than I'd expected it to be. Good luck!

What BBB does is allow you to get 20% of remaining items at a "Completion Party" they have them monthly I guess. I got an email after our wedding date passed that invited us, but it appears its only for that day and location.

Nice! I got it back in college when I went on a shopping spree LoL. Its been my favorite CC since. Although now I just use it for make up, or when they send me coupons that you can only use with a CC purchase.

We did Target, Macy's, and Kohl's.

Here are my thoughts on all three:

Target -  The most popular choice among our guests, and the registering process was pretty smooth. My only huge complaint is that they delete your registry really soon after the wedding and don't warn you. If etiquette says people have a year to buy you a present, why have a 90-day post-wedding cutoff? I just wish I would have known, because a lot of OOT family that didn't come to the wedding keep asking if I still have a registry b/c they want to get us something.

Macy's - Not as popular with our guests, but it allowed us to register for some higher end stuff. The best part was our completion discount. Between gift cards and the discount, we ended up getting $1000 worth of bedding for $75. It's also nice, because they delete your registry 90 days after the last purchase, so if gifts keep trickling in, you get to keep it for a while. Besides the fact that many of my guests were seemingly too intimidated to shop there, it was my favorite registry.

Kohl's - I mainly registered there due to popular demand and because they have the best bathroom accessories and towels. There were a LOT of logistical problems with this one, though. If you add something in store, then delete it later online... people who go into the store will still see it on the registry print-out. We had initially chosen one set of bathroom accessories, but changed our minds when we came home and looked at more online. I added the new one and cancelled the old, and it worked online... but people who shopped in store saw both. There was also some random duplication where people obviously used the registry correctly, but the store let them buy something already purchased. This is how we ended up with 3 bathroom sets for one bathroom, one of which we didn't even want, and the other two complete duplicates ;-)

We didn't bother registering, since we were looking more for cash than gifts.  We probably would have done Dayton's, Target, and C&B if we had.  We did end up with a whole bunch of gift cards to BBB, though, which is funny because we pretty much never shop there.  We pooled them all and got some really high-end sheets we needed very badly.

<div>Yes, but it's nothing to get excited about. I was issued a 10% off coupon and it had to be used on one shopping trip. I found that to be annoying because our other registries (Williams-Sonoma and C&B) allowed us a discount over a set period of time - essentially a limitless number of shopping trips.</div><div>
</div><div>Almost all of our Target registry was fulfilled - so very Minnesotan. I noticed that things that were "online only" items at Target did not get fulfilled - I've never seen them go on other registries either. Kind of a weird thing. I loved registering at C&B - super easy process and I loved everything we received. Especially our fine dining stuff - we registered for china and received TONS of it and all of our stemware.</div>

Has anyone ever registered at Kitchen Window in Uptown?  We are definitely doing C&B, but there are some unique brands of cookware that we would really like and we'd like to support a local business if possible.  Any thoughts?

Ok...so we just got back..and whew.. what a PITA! I thought I would enjoy it, however, when we went to BBB their "consultant" was a bit snotty and follwed us around the entire time...even efter we told her we understand how to use the gun and know what we want. YIKES!
