Makeup Trial...

So I had my first makeup trial over the weekend, before my engagement photos.  She came to my house, which was great.  A little pricey, but she had an hour drive, and it was mothers day.  She was great, and friendly.  I didn't have a mirror in front of me while she was doing it, so I didn't know what I looked like until I was done.  I don't wear a lot of makeup, and I told her I wanted to look more natural.  I was excited to see what I looked like.  When she was done, I looked at myself and felt like I had WAY too much makeup on.  My eyes were very dramatic.  I don't wear eye liner ever, and she put eyeliner on the top and bottom, although she said she didn't put a lot on.  Plus, she put a pinkish color on my lips and I did not like it.  I tamed my lips down, and I felt like it looked a little better.  But a lot of my family thought it looked like I had a lot on, and I don't think my FI liked it.  Everyone said just wait, see what it looks like in you pics.  I'm nervous though.  Should do another trial with someone else?  Wait until I see what it looks like in pictures.  Ask her if she can do a different lip color?  She said for the day of it would be more dramatic, because it's my wedding day.  Suggestions??

If you don't like it now, you probably won't like it for your wedding if she does it the same way. I don't wear make up ever, and I am worried about that happening for me too. Why would you want to look like a completely different person on your wedding day?

Did you get airbrush? A lot of ladies say that it is worth the extra money because it has a more natural look. Did you tell her you weren't happy? If you want her to do it for your day, talk to her about it, maybe she can do another trial. If not, I probably would find someone else.

  • I did get airbrush, and I really did like it.  I loved my eyes, even though I thought they were dramatic. But I think you need dramatic a little for your wedding day?  I really think it was the lipstick that was throwing me off?  I didn't talk to her about it.  I probably will ask her about it. Because like I said, I liked her, and certain aspects I liked.  But if a few things could be tweeked, I think that would make it better.  I bought a boudair session that comes with makeup, on a groupon.  So maybe I'll see how that goes.  If I like that better, I'll ask her to go with that look.  It's just so pricey to get the trials done.  And she does airbrush and lashes for $65.  From what I've seen, thats a good price.

  • I had the same experience doing my trial with my engagement photos!  I decided to try another girl for my shower, similar experience.  I ended up going to Sephora.  They will give you a makeup lesson for $50 which is really a $50 gift card you use for products in the store.  I had an AMAZING experience.  She showed me how to apply everything and we picked together.  I bought some new stuff and finally tried it myself at home last weekend for my bachelorette party.  Everyone loved it!  It was heavier than usual but still me.
  • What is the name of your makeup person??? I had a trial on Saturday & I felt the same way you did. It was not what I was looking for at all. I am not from the area, so I just went based on suggestions and I am second guessing my choice. I get a 2nd trial for free, but I can't get back to detroit until the end of june which is only a couple weeks before the wedding. It is pretty nerve racking...
