Boston Public Garden Wedding

I'm a brand new Knottie... got engaged last Tuesday.

Very quickly, my finance and I have gone from the idea of a church wedding/reception with bells, whistles, etc. to the bare minimum -- what's really important to us is to be married, not to have a production. (NOTHING against anyone else's plans; it just was seeming too complicated for our situation.)

So, we are thinking about having the ceremony in the Public Garden in May 2014.  It's only $100 ($50 if you live in the city), plus $50 for the license.  We'd still be married by my priest (I hope), but we wouldn't have to spend $2600 on the church, plus the reception, plus plus plus.

Feedback?  Thanks in advance.

  • Who is invited to the wedding?  Whomever you invite, you have to host for something, even if it is just cake and punch.

  • I agree with the above, but otherwise do whatever you want! Its your day!

  • I saw one of these one day when walking around the gardens and thought it was a great idea.  There were only a couple of guests, however, and there is no seating, so keep that in mind.  It does sound lovely!
  • The ceremony is the cheap part, so it doesn't much matter where you get married, church vs outside.  That being said, we got married on the beach and it was fantastic.  Whoever you invite you must host and that's where all the expense comes in.
  • What happens if it rains?

  • Thanks for your input, ladies!  We're changing back to a church wedding, at my future MIL's request.  That also solves the weather concern.

    Now, for the DIY/budget planning!
