Ceremony Music

Hi ladies!  I need your help...

I wanted to have string instruments at my ceremony. I did some research and everything I found was a little pricy and I couldn’t really justify spending that much for an hour of music.  So my friend had the idea of contacting our old high school to see if we could get some orchestra students to do it (our high school has a great music program).  I have everything worked out now for the most part, I talked to the teacher and he found me some students who will be at U of M next year, but said they would be willing to do it for me.  My question is how much should I pay them.  I was thinking $100 each.  What do you think??

Thanks!

If I was in HS and I was making $100 for a maybe 30 min ceremony and maybe 1 hour for the rehearsal I would be more than happy.  Seems reasonable to me. Great idea!

Trishalynne, I'd contact them and ask what they expect. My son played the trumpet in the band at HS, some of his friends were also good enough to provide musical instrument lessons. I'm thinking $100 is in the ballpark, but some of them, if they are going to U of M, and majoring in music, could be REALLY good and expect more.

Just my opinion, but you have to consider how many of them have ever played together as an "ensemble". You may only see their work at the rehearsal and ceremony, but if they are perfectionists (which I think you'd want), they may be practicing together as well.

    Good luck.
