Wedding Ceremony & Reception Music Discussions

Is $1200 a reasonable price for a DJ?

Our DJ will also be our emcee and there will be setup of audio equipment in 3 locations: the church, the cocktail hour terrace, and the reception ballroom.  We will have the DJ from 2pm to 11pm.  Does $1200 seem like a reasonable price?

You should try posting this on your local board since the cost will vary depending on where you are.  The cost of a DJ in your area may be something completely different from my area.

I agree, try your local board but I think that is definitely reasonable!

That's roughly $172 per hour. That sounds pretty reasonable to me.

I think that's definitely reasonable! Our DJ is also doing our lighting, and ours came to a grand total of $2300.

edit: I live right near a big city.

Considering the three different locations and the amount of time, I consider that VERY reasonable.

I live in Southern Cali and thats how much my DJ is so I think that is pretty reasonable.

Without knowing where you are planning on getting married, with three locations and a total of 9 hours plus setup, it sounds really reasonable.

That sounds like a heck of a good deal.  If you think about it, all his time and three different sets of equipment alone - wow!  Your DJ has a lot of money invested in equipment alone.  Once you calculate in his equipment, time and his expertise on having your day be memorable and fun for all your guests.

We all pay big price tags for our dresses, food, etc, but what part of a wedding/reception do most remember?  If the DJ was any good or not....

Sounds like you are in very good hands for a super cheap price.

If it all pans out great, I say toss him a tip too.

    Have a great wedding!
