Dress with train on a beach

Hi List,
I want to have a wedding ceremony on a beach, either on the sand or up on some cliffs overlooking the ocean. I also want to have a wedding dress with a short train that will drag nonetheless. I know it's not practical but I'm wondering what other people's experiences have been with beach weddings and their dresses getting dirty. Mine would be a dress that I would want to bustle and continue wearing during the reception. Thoughts?

Re: Dress with train on a beach

  • As long as the sand isn't wet, it should just brush right off.  Like any dress with a train, dragging it on the ground is going to get it dirty, you can't avoid it.  It won't be dirty enough that you won't want to wear it at the reception.
  • Hi Genysis80,
Congratulations, your ceremony sounds really romantic! And beach wedding or not, if you want a long dress with a train- well what can I say maybe it's not the most practical but I can't think of any other time you'll get to have a train. :)
Be prepared for possible complications and the dress may get dirty quickly. Especially if the sand is wet or dirty and if the day is breezy. Think it over and see what means more to you: a) Having that longer dress with a small train that you really want or b) Having the confidence that you won't have any issues with your dress getting dirty at the ceremony. It's a trade-off either way.

  • I got my bridal pictures taken on the beach and my dress has a train and it was fine (see picture below which was taken after bridal pictures but before dry cleaning).  It got a couple of smudges but didn't really get dirty.  As pp suggested, sand will brush off.  I wouldn't get certain fabrics wet but other than that you should be fine.  Nothing happened to my dress on the beach that the dry cleaners couldn't handle, I just took my dress right in and they had it back to me later that week good as new.
Whoever said it was supposed to be happily ever after is a big fat liar.
