Honeymoon in Riviera Maya - How long is enough?

My FH and I are going to be going to Riviera Maya for our honeymoon (both cost wise, and will give us sunny relaxation with some adventure).  Is anyone else planning to go there or has been there?  What is a good amount of time to spend there without missing things but also not so long to be bored?  Most of the packages give us a week.  Is that enough?  Once you add on a couple more days the price seems to jump like crazy!  My FH and I are generally not lay-on-the-beach type people so I'm thinking that 7 days is probably enough with a couple of days in there for exploring ruins and then some water sports the other days.

I have taken off more than a week off of work so we'll have more time with eachother so don't worry about commenting on that part of it.  We have put aside time to open presents and enjoy our bliss before we go back to the grind!

Advice please! Thank you thank you thank you!

  • When FI and I went we went for 6nights/7days.  We decided when we go again it will definitely be for 10days!  We did excursions and it made us feel like we didn't get enough time to just hang at the pool/beach.  We figure 10days would give us the right amount of time to relax and go site seeing too. :)  HTH
  • ideally i would say between 8-10 days but whewnever i go, it is for a week.  we are going for a week for our honeymoon as well, but the day we arrive, we get there by 11am, so we do not really lose too much time due to travel.  like you, we want adventure AND relaxation, so we compromised and we are doing day 1) relax, day 2) adventure (ruins) day 3)relax day 4) adventure (scuba diving) day 5) relax, day 6) adventire (TBD) day 7) relax day 8) leave.  get the best of both worlds in a short trip :)
  • We'll be there for 6 nights/7 days.  Neither of us get a lot of vacation time at work (which SUCKS) so we're pretty limited!  I think that'll be enough time though to relax and enjoy ourselves!

SoonToBeJLO, I'm glad you said that was the perfect amount of time because we'll be doing Mon-Sun too!  Thanks for letting us know about the snorkeling thing too because FI said that would be the only excursion he would want to take, and I know he'd be so mad if we got convinced into doing something else that we didn't like!

Definitely at least 7nts. I went to Cancun for 3nts in Mar and it was way too short. I really didn't want to leave... lol!
  • I was in Cozumel for about a week and it was just right. I was getting really tired of the resort food.
