What to say to mom when ruining shopping 4 dresses?

OK, so we haven't even GONE yet, but we are going tomorrow, just me and mom, and talking on the phone tonight made me nuts!! Plus i'm watching Say Yes to The Dress, and i can see my mother Vetoing EVERYTHING and having her annoying nasty comments that for some reason she loves to yell really loud because she thinks it is funny and people will love it...it's just embarassing.

Now yes, we haven't gone gown shopping together, but she's been my mother for 27 years and I am having flashes of how she is going to ruin the experience.

HELP! Any suggestions?!?!?!

  • Your mom sounds like my MIL! We don't have the same taste in much of anything, and she's rather, um, vocal about her opinions.

Like PP said, I'd give her the benefit of the doubt--nitpicking at dresses on TV is very different from saying something rude to your own daughter. If she does become very critical, just say that you value her opinions, but that you need her to be supportive as well.

Mine didn't even want to go.  Which did hurt my feelings for a while but I'm not dwelling on what i can't change.  I ended up shopping by myself then with a few very trusted girl friends.
If she does ruin this trip then pick yourself up and go by yourself of with a few very trusted friends.  Remember if you are old enough to get married then you can certainly pick a dress without your mom.
