Australia Honeymoon?

Hello!

I'm getting married in May, and my fiance and I are DYING to go to Australia for our honeymoon. However, we know that May is the beginning of their cooler seasons. Has anyone gone there in May? Or any other time and can suggest a plan for places to stay, visit, etc. We are planning on something along a 10 day trip.

Obviously the Sydney Opera House and the Great Barrier Reef are must sees. But anything else would be really helpful!

    I haven't been in May so I can't comment on weather and I stayed in hosels so no advice on where to stay, but here's some other sightseeing suggestions!
    Cairns: Great Barrier Reef and Cape Tribulation/Daintree National Rainforest. If you plan on scuba diving they say you can't fly the same day so that might play into how many days you stay in Cairns. If you have extra time in Cairns and want to feed kangaroos and hold a koala check out Rainforestation.

    Sydney: I'd skip the bridge climb. I've heard mixed reviews on it, and personally I didn't think it was worth the money. Some people absolutely love it so it's definitly a preference thing. Public transit it pricey there but you can walk to a lot of places if you plan it strategically. Pancakes on the Rocks has AMAZING food if you're looking for a yummy breakfast. Also Darling Harbour has a lot of cute places to eat. If you find yourself wanting more nature, take a tour from Sydney out to the Blue Mountains.

    Great Ocean Road: If you have time and don't mind driving on the wrong side of the road definitely do this! You can start in Melbourne or Adelaide and drive the Great Ocean Road between them. Lots of cute towns, nice beaches, and the 12 Apostles.

    I was in Australia in August (Brisbane and Cairns) - Brisbane was pretty chilly (needed a sweater) and Cairns still felt like summer....because Australia is a HUGE continent and the two cities are very far apart.

    For a 10 day trip I think you're really going to want to narrow down where you want to go and stay in that general area. Cairns and Sydney are significantly far from one another and if you try to hit too many places you're going to spend more of your time travelling to the locations than actually enjoying them.

    If you do go to Cairns, I highly recommend scuba diving on the reef. It's one of the most enjoyable "touristy" things i've ever done. The whole city is laid back and was fun to visit. There are plenty of things to do in that area.
