Dear P2

Re: Dear P2

  • It's titled 'amazing picture' for a reason. That shiit happened up in North Queensland (I live in Queensland too, but it's a big state. If I remember my presentation from the conference I went to in Wyoming accurately, it's actually 2.5 times bigger than Texas). Much closer to where aMrs is moving, actually (but don't tell her that! I think the prospect of rainforest creepy crawlies is freaking her out enough as it is!). The snake incident they mention also happened in far North Queensland. I have seen snakes before (I remember seeing one or two when I was a child, and then last year I saw a baby one in our yard/bush), but not big ones. They do hang out in the rainforest type areas, though.

Nick grew up on Mount Tamborine, which is a beautiful, big rainforest type mountain. He has seen some of those things (giant spiders- not as big as that one, though- and big snakes).

[QUOTE]Okay I knew you guys were like us Americans and Canadians but, please don't tell me that you don't swim with great white sharks. I don't think I could handle the truth ;P

Hahaha... well, if it helps I'm sure that we share the ocean with them from time to time! :P
  • What is that thing, smokey?! eww.

I haven't seen any spiders with giant bodies like that (save redbacks, but they are pea-sized at biggest). And fur... eww.

[QUOTE]We don't live in the forrest or forest. Nor do we all live in the 'outback' either. I know it's hard to believe, but I don't have any pet koalas, and I never rode a kangaroo to school, either. You know, when the olympics were on here, there was a list published of some of the bizarre questions that the organisers were getting. They included things like someone asking if we had ATMs in Australia, and if so, where they were located. I think that everyone seriously believed that Simpson's episode about us hanging out in muddy dams all day and travelling around on our kangaroos. On another web forum I post on, I mentioned something about compulsory voting once, and a lady started saying how terrible it was that we were forced to vote for a particular party... I then had to explain that no, contrary to apparent popular opinion, there's more countries in the world who utilise a democratic system than the US! She then went on to defend herself, saying that in many developing countries voters are forced to vote with the party in power... last time I checked, Australia wasn't on the list of developing countries... !

yeah, it makes me laugh when people completely generalize entire countries like that. they do it here for different states. i've had to tell quite a few people that, yes, i can be from GA and 1) not married to my cousin 2) have never eaten rabbit stew 3) not know how to country line dance & 4) have never owned a cow, chicken, goat, horse, or any other type of livestock.

and now that i live in FL, everybody back in GA thinks I spend all of my time at the beach. I go to the beach here like once a year.
  • i see snakes all the time here in fl. be afraid, ang. they're gonna get you this summer.
  • Haha Sarah, we have the same generalisations about states here. Everyone thinks that Queenslanders spend all their time at the beach, and that Tasmanians are all inbred hick farmers.
  • That was one of the image results for a funnel web spider.  Look, I'm not picky; I'm not having ANY spiders.  I'll take snakes; I'll take sharks; I'll take worms.  Whatever.

But I cannot handle spiders. at. all.

When I was a little girl I was laying on my floor coloring.  I felt an itch on my arm and looked down and a big ass spider was just cruising up.  It was black with spots and was "greasy" looking, not furry.  I screamed.  Loud.  I knocked it off my arm and ran like greased lightening into the living room.  My dad killed it and even showed me that it was dead, but that was it.

Irrational fear of spiders was now firmly in place.

I don't get married often, but when I do, I do it in Las Vegas.

  • Yeah well outsiders think people in MS wear camo, drink beer, go mud riding, go hunting, and hang around bonfires on weekends, ummmm wait....

Sarah- I am not afraid of most animals. I will even pick up snakes and spiders if I know they are safe. The only think I am deathly afraid of is roaches. (((Shiver)))

I want to swim with a great white, well at least be in a cage next to one!

  • Yes, getting on a four wheeler and riding in the mud. I have not done this in about 8 years but it's pretty fun. You can only do so much if you live in the country.

  • The thing I saw looked nothing like that! I wouldn't be so blase about it if it did! haha. It looked like this, but smaller (duh)... and with 8 legs, not seven: http://pics.davesgarden.com/pics/Magpye_1158354059_796.jpg

It was maybe an inch and a half in total span.

Ricks, same here- I can see a spider and not be completely freaked, but I hate hate hate cockroaches.

  • i haven't posted this in a while. this was in my bedroom a year ago.

  • Sarah that looks like a banana spider. Those things are fierce looking.
