Zales?

I've been trying to find a white gold wedding band with diamond baguettes (also open to moissanite and white sapphire) for months, with shockingly little success.  The only two I've found were at Firenze Jewelers for $2,175 (clicky) or the "design your band" option at Zales for $900.  The only issue I'm having with that is they can't tell me the width of the band because "this custom order option is available via one of
our custom jewelers".  I'm trying to keep my budget under $1,000, so the Zales option works, but I'm concerned about quality.  I've read a lot of negative reviews, so I'm nervous.  Has anyone had any experience buying their rings from Zales?

Re: Zales?

  • Have you talked to a local jeweler at all?  I've been suprised at how competetive they are for custom work - particularly when you're able to comprimise on some things (i.e. white sapphire or moissanite).

The other posters had good suggestions, after having my yellow gold set custom made by a local jeweler including good quality .59 carat center diamond, emerald on either side, and diamonds set halfway around the band of the engagement ring and the wedding band, my fiance said it came in around his price range of $5,000.  They may be able to do your wedding band for close to your price range and you have nothing to lose but a few minutes of your time to take a picture of what you want to one or two stores and see if you can get a rough estimate.
Whoever said it was supposed to be happily ever after is a big fat liar.
  • Thank you ladies!  The Blue Nile ring MilkDuds pulled up might work.  I'm not sure how to go about finding a local jeweler.  I have looked around but no luck so far.  I'm trying to take a day to go to the diamond district with FI and walk around to find an independent jeweler.  FI had my ring custom designed at Michael C Fina (which is probably why its so hard to match), so he wants to go back there, but I doubt they can do it within my price range.
  • My E-ring is from Zales, we go every few months for inspections with their warranty, and we haven't had any issues, they've been super nice at the store, we will likely get our wedding bands there too.

  • My rings are also from Shane Co and I've been thrilled with their customer service and quality of their rings.  Good luck!

  • My e-ring and wedding band came as a set from zales. I absolutely love it and all the people who work there, so far, have been great. Their warrently states you must take it in to be examined every 6 months, which is nice because it makes sure it is still in beautiful shape :)

My ER is from Zales i have insurance on it and absolutelly love it....since we knew we will have a looong engagement we bought new sets for our church wedding also from Zales.... after bringing them home we put them in the safe.... After a year when it was time to size them i realized my engagement ring was smaller than the wedding ring and scratched all over. In the store you cant really see with all these lights they look beautiful and sparkly... usually rings come in a standard size 7 which is too big for me but the engagement ring was my size which is five... i just knew that it was used  and it was missing one prong that holds the diamond and the sales guy didnt say a word.... He did match our price when we were buing it... So we went back to Zales and told this lady  the entire story and she had no problems with exchanging the ring.... She ordered me a brand new ring! sized it cleaned it and inspect it.... I love myy new ring!!!! I would reccomend zales greeat costumer service, except that one guy... :) BTW we also live in NYC and we went to Zales located in Queens center mall... The sales guy looks a little like cesar milan the dog whisperer... :P ehhe Goood Luck!!!!

  • Stay away from Zales.   My best friend ordered her FH's ring there and when she got the call it was supposed to be in, she was told there was no ring actually ordered for her.  Needless to say, they were not willing to "rush" order her anything nor refund her money. They would only apply her money as an instore credit.  What makes it even worse is that she had all the info to prove it had been ordered while she was in the store at the time of purchase.  In the end it took a lawyer and an extra 10 mos to get her money back.
