Do I wash my hair before the up-do?

I have super fine, stick-straight hair.  All my life I have been told to wear your hair "dirty" for an up-do.  I'm going to a new stylist that hasn't seen my hair for the wedding.  The salon said to come with my hair clean and dry.  I'm sure it's not a big deal if I just wash it the day before, but has anyone else heard of this/dealt with this?

Thanks!

Re: Do I wash my hair before the up-do?

  • I have very fine hair and have always washed my hair in the morning before getting an updo. It holds just fine, and it avoids the greasy look I'd have by mid-day if I washed it the night before.
  • I agree with this! A good stylist will know what you need to do in order for it to turn out perfect. If it's too clean, they have products (texurizers, root boosting spray, etc.) It may require washing at the salon if you don't wash it right before the appoinment. Did you explain to the stylist about the fineness and straightness of your hair? If not, you should because she may have an idea of what she will need (product wise) before hand. Instead of figuring out last minute. If it's volume and body you are concerned for everyday, they make awesome shampoos and conditioners that will help to boost it. You could ask the stylist too, if there are any products you should be using from now until the wedding to help out and make the styling easier. Also dry shampoo helps to maintain the body but remove excess dirt and oil.
