NWR buttt WOooo Hoooo!

So we got hit with Sandy Monday and at 9pm we lost power which totally sucked, but luckily our house was fine.  So today, we went into my car for like the 3rd time to charge my phone and were playing Uno in there to kill time. lol came in and FI yelled something while I was shutting door and I thought one of the cats did something and then he was like POWERRRRRRRRRR HEATTTT!! lol our tv turned on and we could smell the heat blasting    :-D  That was just so exciting!  lol had to share :-)

  • Glad you are doing well and that the power is back!  We are so familiar with that feeling down in South Florida and know it's not easy going through those hurricanes.

  • You're so lucky! We're in NJ too, and were hit with Sandy. But no power and heat yet :-(. FI still has to go into work, but because my job is in lower manhattan, there's no power and no access to it.

Aw man, Renae- sorry to hear youre still without :-(  My parents, FI's parents, my grandma, and a MOH are still out of heat and elec. too.  What part of Jersey are you in?  I work for the Jersey City school district & we were shut down all week and supposed to go back Monday.  Now that Atlantic City was hit hard, the teacher's convention is cancelled (which is why we would have off of school next Thurs/Fri and I only had to take off next Wed..) hoping we don't get called in for that so I don't have to use days. And the place we were going to board our cats seems to still be evacuated which really sucks b/c if they're not open by Tues., we'll have to leave them home and have FI's uncle and cousin check up on them.  Hoping they're water-free by then :-\

  • Glad to know you girls are well and safe! Hopefully, you will have power back, Renae!

I am a member of a November brides board on FB and my heat broke to hear some of the members suffering massive losses not only to their homes but their wedding venues. One bride had her venue completely destroyed and has to push her wedding back till next year.
  • Hey DG, I live in Bayonne. FI works in JC so I've been seeing first hand how badly affected JC was hit, with all the flooding. I can't begin to even imagine how Atlantic City looks right now. @Dania, you have a really great point, I'm so grateful that I'm just without heat and electricity. The damage could have been worst, so thanks for the gratitude check. I have coworkers whose entire homes were flooded. I didn't think this storm would be so bad, but it was.

  • I have seen pics of Atlantic City and its devastating! My friend who is NJ sent them to me and my heart sank. To see the destruction and how people didn't expect Sandy's outcome those areas are not ready for such weather systems is heartbreaking. Here in South Florida, we have gone through it with Hurricane Andrew and Wilma which was cat 1 but caused a lot of damage and loads of ppl lost power for weeks. I'm very thankful Sandy didn't hit us with its force because South Florida would probably be under water especially being below sea level. Not to mention my reception venue would have probably been affected since its right next to the water.
  • The photos of the damage throughout the state are unreal.  FI's cousin/aunt's house in South Jersey was pretty much destroyed.  His aunt and uncle in Bayonne were still out of heat/elec. when they stopped by Friday night.  Hope everyone gets their heat and power back ASAP!  We're so thankful we didn't get any damage.  With all the uprooted trees around the area, we saw a handful that fell onto people's roofs when we took a walk last week.  And the gas shortage is a nightmare!  I was just in line at a gas station a few blocks from our house for 4 hrs-- just to fill alf a tank of gas.  Hoping the gas is back to normal after we come back from FL. next week!
