Hello all - engagment party ideas?

Not sure the best way to introduce myself and get involved in the community.

My name is Judy and I am marrying my sweetie Adam.

We are having an engagement dinner tomorrow night with our families and a few friends.

Our wedding date is 11/11/11  :)

So far, our plans for this relaxed, informal dinner:

- name tags (big families)
- buffet dinner
- have baby pictures of each of us
- recent pictures of each of us
- allowing friends/family to share stories of us. probably silly ones - maybe along the lines of "Are you sure you want to do this?"

Any other ideas? We only have the restaurant for 2 hours and are short on time, although it is a dinner buffet.

We are far, far, FAR from traditional, so I would appreciate any unique ideas.
Not just for the engagement, but going forward. :)

Here is a draft site I am workign on for us.
From what I read, storyof how you met, etc.
Maybe the pictures are a bit much - but we look forward to bucking tradition.

Thanks!

Judy

COngratulations and welcome to our board!  The ladies here are super helpful and you'll get a lot of great advice:-)  The pictures are not too much, we love pictures, and we love wedding details.  I think your ideas for the engagement party are fine.  By the time you eat and everything there won't be a whole lot of time for other things.  If you want you can always do an advise thing where everyone writes down their favorite thing they had at their wedding (to give you ideas) or the best wedding advice.

    Congrats and happy planning!

We just had informal toasts at our engagement party - they were LOTS of fun though!

And, OMG - when I started planning 07/07/07 was the popular wedding date.  Can't believe there are 11/11/11 brides now.

Welcome, and congrats on your engagement! Work blocked your website- boo! I'll have to take a look when I get home. I've never been to an engagement party, so no experience to share. But your ideas sound good. I also like H's idea of having people share wedding advice with you. Have fun!

Hello and Welcome!  I don't have any e-party advice.  But hope that you come back and post often!

(Just a note, I would remove your last names from your website for public view.  We don't want any internet stalkers to find you! Tongue out)

Hi and congratulations!  Good luck and have fun at your engagement party tonight :)  I think all your suggestions seem great!

One other thing that my engagement party hostesses did was print and frame a list of major events that happened on the date of our engagement- I can't remember what they were exactly, but it was things like Amelia Earheart's first transatlantic flight, polio vaccine discovered, Marilyn Monroe born, etc, and the last item on the list was a cute sentence or two about our engagement.  I loved that!

Oh, I am so glad to be on here, and just need to get ahead of the game abit.
I wish I woudl have seen your replies!

The informal stories did not go over as well as I had hoped. I did tell the story of our meeting and engagement. A couple of people did tell stories, but not many. They were shy. Having them write them down woudl have been better!

One thing that happened - our date got changed!

Instead of 11-11-11 we are now doing 1-1-11

    Yikes!

I had been saying I coudl not wait, now I am running out of time!

Don't worry, you've still got plenty of time!  Do your venues still have your date available and everything?  Feel free to ask us for vendor suggestions if you need them!
