Needs help deciding!

Hello. I have a question about my wedding coming up in august of this year. My father is helping pay for the wedding, but my fiancee and I are paying for 2/3 of it, while my father is paying for the other 1/3. I am inviting some people that he asked me to invite, but he wants me to invite one of his friends that I have worked with. I can not stand this guy and he is an absolute jerk to my fiancee and I. I really dont want to invite him to the wedding! Do you think it'd be worng it I didnt because my dad is helping with the wedding, or ok that I dont invite him because he is very rude and my fiancee and I dont get along with him?     I would try talking to your dad.  Does he know your issues with this person?  If he does and insists anyway you should decide if its worth the fight to not invite him.  I would guess its probably not.

    Katy asks a good question.  It's possible your dad doesn't know the friend treats you that way.  If he did, I can't imagine why he'd want to have you invite him.

    I agree with PP's. Surely your dad wouldn't want to invite him if he knew how he treated you and your fiance. If he still doesn't see eye to eye, this is where you should still put your foot down. Yes, if he's paying 1/3 he gets some say, but not if it's someone that you and/or your fiance do not feel comfortable with at all and he's not a family member.

    My father does know how we feel. I did talk with him and at first he seemed mad but I explained that I wasnt having a large wedding and that I'd rather invite people we enjoy being around instead of excluding a friend because he wanted me to invite someone we didnt like.

    I would stand firm with your decision. I personally wouldn't want someone I didn't like or felt was rude to me at my wedding. I feel like you've been very accomodating to your dad with the rest of the guest list and if you have problems with this one person, you shouldn't invite them and your dad should respect that whether or not he agrees with it.

    If this guy dislikes you and yor FI as much as it sounds like, then he propably doesn't want to come to your wedding anyway. Definately explain to your father, gently, how you feel and that you'd rather not invite this guy. I'm sure that your dad will understand. Good luck!
