registry info on wedding website

I know that it's standard these days to include registry info on the wedding website, but I'm wondering how you feel about it from an etiquette standpoint. If I include the link to the wedding website on an insert in my invitations, and the website includes registry info, is this rude? My gut says yes, but I'm wondering how others feel about it. Thanks!

Re: registry info on wedding website

  • Your wedding website is the perfect place for registry info, because the purpose of the website is to provide this kind of information for guests. The invitation is not. I get what logic you're going for, but at that rate you could always trace back the registry announcement to the invitation (ex: word of mouth from parents - parents name on the invitation). I say don't overthink it, and feel free to put registry links on your website.

  • Wedding webiste w/ registry info is pretty standard.

Our wedding invites only included specifics for the day: venues, times, hotels, directions and rsvp.

IMO links to wedding websites and subsequent links to wedding registries should be on STD's and/or shower invitations, not on the wedding invitations.

  • Someone just asked this question on the gifts board. As long as you don't put "see registry info on wedding website" on the invite or force your guests to visit the site to RSVP, then they will be looking at it of their own volition, probably because they want to know where you are registered. I'd make it one of the last tabs on your website, though.

  • I dont see anything wrong with it, its not as bad as including the info on the invitations.
  • The main etiquette rule about registries is to only give out the information if asked.

So if guests are visiting your wedding website, it's usually be cause they want more information.  To me, that's the same as asking.

But I'd keep it low key on posting a link, or how you mention.  I also agree that the inserts and additional information in the invitations would be better in the STDs, if you are sending them.

I personally hate getting an invite that has all kinds of inserts fall out.  It's like getting those junk mail ads in with bills.  I just prefer the invitation to be simple, elegant, and as formal/traditional as possible.
  • I put the link to our website on the save the dates.  I will also provide the link on our accommodations/travel info insert which will go into our invites.  Our guests will be 100% out of state so we need to get them accomodation information in the invitation suite.  It will not be ON the invite though.
  • I think it's the perfect place.

I have a facebook friend who has it in her little profile box under her profile picture. All it says is, "WE ARE REGISTERED AT TARGET AND BED BATH AND BEYOND!! :) THANKS!!!"  ... Now THAT, IMO is tacky.
  • Know what else is tacky MrsB711, giving out inactive credit cards to companies to get out of paying for charges you are fully aware you will incur if you cancel appointments at the last minute. Now THAT, IMO is tacky.
