I guess it is almost time....to look for the dress - vent

Ok, ladies,

I do not want to offend anyone, but it's a dress, that I will wear for 2 hours max including travel time, ceremony and pictures.  You see, I'm getting married bare foot on the beach with my FI and our 2 best friends - Intimate & Romantic (yes, our families know and approve).  There will be an aisle, flowers, etc, the whole thing.  I no longer care about being a princess, or buying a white dress, nor am I paying hundreds of dollars on a dress that will sit in the back of a closet until I decide to get rid of it.  I'm getting everything I want in a wedding, but having issues with the dress.  Everyone wants to go with me to find the DRESS and I will go with a select few as we are not having a "Say yes to the dress" moment.  I know that I'm probably the only bride feeling this way, so I will stay on my island by myself.  My colors are orange and fushia and here is the dress I love and think will look perfect on the beach.....plus I get to wear it again.  Thanks for reading and letting me vent....my BFF told me that I'm not really a girl, so I have heard it all....

  • You said the magic words: " Here is the dress I love."  To be honest, I felt a lot like you when I was dress shopping. I do have my dress, but I did not pay much for it and its pre-owned, which my TX mom looked mad when I told her about it.  It's pretty, but I did not cry. I only took my sister (MOH) with me. But I'm not big on my dress. At the end of the day, do it your way. I learn this about wedding when my mentor showed me her wedding pics from the 70's...and she had on all red with white trims. Yes, we told her it looked like Ms Claus. But she loves red, she made the dress and she was very proud of that moment. That's all that matters. Forget society and their standards...

  • Please know that you are NOT the only bride that feels this way... Many of us didn't have that "say yes to the dress" moment! The only thing that matters is that you're happy. That dress is wonderful, and you will be happy on that day and get to wear it again! 'Nuff said!
    congrats :)
  • I LOVE the dress you picked. I think you will look fabulous on the beach.

  • Sweetie you are absolutely not alone; my FMIL was the only one I took with me. It's a simple dress, removable bottom with a band in the color I wanted.

For the record, I plan on using it again; I'm getting married on June 8th and I have an appointment on June 11th to get it dyed, pressed and the band removed so I can wear it to a friend's wedding later this year. I'm not a wasteful person by nature so I wanted something I could use again. The store owner also gave me a 60% discount and free alterations for myself and the WP for buying off the peak dress season.

So get this: $560 later, I have a dress to walk down the aisle in. I take off the bottom and I have a dress to shake my booty in. A few weeks later I have a cocktail dress to celebrate my friend's wedding in. Don't feel pressured to have the big white billowy dress that everybody expects you to have!
