What's up this Tuesday evening?

Re: What's up this Tuesday evening?

  • The best part of my prom was not prom, but the post prom party for our entire city (several high schools).

There was a prom in the city where our wedding was this past weekend and there were some prom kids taking pictures in the park we were doing our pictures in, and most of the girls were dressed like hookers.

  • We had a prom king and queen...I had no idea who they were.  Like seriously, when they announced it, I didn't even think they went to my school.

    Anniversary
  • A post prom party for multiple schools? That does sound fun! Are you from MN or WI JK? I ask because I saw your wedding was in Lacrosse (I've been there a few times--love the scenic overlooks on the bluffs!)

  • My grandma made my prom dress exactly how I wanted it. It was a knee length lavender silk with a bluish/purple sheen to it with a teal tie at the waist that had pink roses on it and a burgundy tulle coming out from under the skirt. It sounds like it doesn't match but it was gorgeous together and exactly what I wanted to wear.

That's kinda weird, heh. We had a "sno dance" royal court for some reason and no one ever cared about it. Same for homecoming. I think people were actually kind of embarassed when they won.

I'm from WI (but I'm not from La Crosse, ha, we just like to confuse people by getting married in random places).  It was great fun--lots of awesome food, fun games, a HUGE dance floor, etc, from about 10pm-4am.  You only went to your school's prom so that you could go to post prom.  Ha.

That sounds super pretty actually, Ciara. :) My grandma really wanted to make my prom dress and I really wanted her to as well, we always talked about it when I was growing up. But then she started getting dementia in my junior year and couldn't do much sewing anymore.

That is crazy, but awesome. I wish we had something that organized around here. Did it cost more money?

  • We had homecoming kind and queen and prom king and queen (prom king and queen was a joke, HC was the court you wanted to be on), and winter formal court--but that was for juniors.

  • Well, our prom tickets were around $35 I think, and included post prom.  I'm not really sure if that's high or not.  Rotary put it on, and I'm not sure how much of the cost was covered by ticket prices (I'm sure at least some, because tickets to other dances were $10), and how much was covered by Rotary.

  • It is so funny how different HS did different things for "courts". I think our "sno dance" courts were one couple per grade. Kinda lame.

$35?! Man I wish I had gone to your school! Our prom tickets were $90 and were at the Prom Center, not even some place super fancy.

  • My HS only had a HC court. If I remember correctly our prom cost $20 or $25.

  • Our prom tix were something like $50 pp.  But they included dinner, so I guess that's not so bad.
  • I think they kept tickets cheap to make up for the fact that we could have gotten shot walking to school.  Priorities.

  • After seeing these prom prices I'm beginning to feel very ripped off, 5 or 6 years after the fact. hah.
    image
  • Or maybe they were $100.  It was either $100pp or per couple.  It was a long time ago.

Hm, seems fair. J (FI) is from WI and I think he told me his prom was pretty cheap too. He was from a tiny little town though... I don't even know where they had the prom in that town.

  • Ditch party, duh.  Best prom ever!

  • Hahahah, it is actually funny because of how many stories he's had about parties in fields. When I first met him, being from the suburbs with a total of 3 fields nearby, this seemed so bizarre to me.

  • My brain hurts from studying.  I think our prom tickets were about $25pp.  I remember the price for pictures was outrageous.  We didn't have any post-prom activities.  Well, we did, but not by the school.  We had a huge after graduation party instead.  At one of my proms the principal got into a fight with the DJ because he wouldn't stop at exactly midnight because it was the middle of the last song.  That was exciting I guess.

That seems like a really silly thing to argue with a DJ about. I mean, let the guy finish the song!

  • Yeah it was dumb.  It made our school look awesome I'm sure.

  • Yeah, I'm from a decent sized city just south of Milwaukee, and FI is from a MN town that was smaller than my high school.  I was just as confused when he first started talking about partying in fields.  I think it went something like this:

FI: so we were driving out to soandso's field for his party and--
Me:  wait, did you say his FIELD?
    FI:  yeah, anyway, and--
Me:  no wait!  HIS FIELD?  Like...where corn grows and horses poop?
FI:  Well, corn didn't grow in this field, and horses didn't poop there either...or we wouldn't have partied there, but yes, basic concept, I'm glad you at least kind of know what a field is.
Me:  YOU DRANK BEER OUTSIDE?  IN A FIELD?

  • I'm pretty sure FI partied in a field the night he graduated high school and got wasted on Crown.

Hahah, oh man, almost word for word conversation that we had too. And one of the parties ended with J waking up in the field the next morning. Klassy, right? Here is another relatively funny small-town related thing that just came up:

Me: Ok, so we can to go to ____ and____ this weekend to get the registry started.
J: Wait, so ... why do we need this? People where I'm from just give a list. Shouldn't we just give out a list?
Me: *Etiquette lady in me explodes*

PS- He isn't your FI anymore, JK! :)

  • ksc-- I know I have probably asked this before, but how old is the little chocolate lab in your avatar now?

  • So, J I stalked your wedding pictures.  You're freaking gorgeous!

  • She'll be 4 in February.
