Entertaining Kids

Though we asked "no kids", we still managed to end up with a few on the guest list. I would like to keep them entertained during ther reception. I was thinking of making some sort of activity packet for them (crayons, coloring pages, etc) but what else should I include? What about the older kids?

I agree with PP that you are fine to call those people and say, "Sorry, the invitation was only for you and your husband, hope you can still make it." If you want to let the kids slide, I still wouldn't make them these activity packets. How do you think the people who left their kids at home because they can understand who is invited will feel when they see not only are there kids at your wedding, you are providing stuff for them to do?

I generally think it's cute to get some coloring books and that kind of thing, but in your situation, I would not do anything to cater to the kids that attend.

If these were kids you actually invited (like FI and I said no kids but we are including his nephews since they are part of our wedding party), you can make up a cheap activity pack. If you sent the invites to Mr. & Mrs. John Doe, and they RSVP'd for Mr. & Mrs. John Doe plus the kid Joey and Janie... I'd call them and say I'm sorry for the confusion but the invitation was was mr. and mrs. doe. As for activity kits- FI's nephews will each be getting a bucket with crayons, coloring book, a snack, juice box, toy cars and a puzzle. It's all for under $10. Party City has the buckets in bright colors for i think $2 a piece, the rest came from Walmart and the dollar store.

Ditto PPs. If you absolutely do not want the kids there, call the RSVPing adults and let them know. If you have decided this not something you are going to press, DH and I provided all the kids with a small pack of crayons and a coloring book. We put them out on their tables. We bought the crayons during back-to-school sales (when an the 8-pack was really cheap) and I got coloring books for 2 for $1 at the dollar store. For some of the older kids, instead of a coloring book and crayons we provided a deck of playing cards. (We also had a kids activity area but we had a lot of kids at our wedding. With a small group, I think something small is fine.)

You don't need to do anythng to entertain them. You're having a wedding, not a kid's birthday party, so the kids need to adapt to the adult event, not vice versa. Their parents will probably bring along a toy or two to amuse them, but most kids are happy to run around and dance.

do nothing. they weren't supposed to be there in the first place. let the parents toting them along worry about it

We are doing crayons, coloring pages. activity pages, with word search and tic tac toe and things like that on them. I figure the older kids would like the activity pages and the younger would like the crayons. We may find some stickers or something also. We also are going to have glow bracelets and bubbles. We have an indoor/outdoor venue.

my thought is if you said no kids then no kids. im sorry if i was sent an invite that didnt invite my kid i would make arrangements. if i then went to wedding and there were kids there i would be upset. why would their kids be ok an mine not. wouldnt be fair

The wedding planning people have keept in minds that entertaining the kids and the guest will give the better impression among the guest. The kids and guest will have the fun and enjoying the event very much.
