  • omg AATB, I freaking hate that.  That is one thing I am most definitely not looking forward to.  Especially since a lot of people lack gym etiquette.

Lol Mehg.  The ones who stand around and visit?  THIS IS THE GYM, ASSHOLES.  Do work.

I go to the gym to do work so yeah it does kinda bust my ass when there are a crap ton of people sluffing off on the cardio machines.  Get out of my way, douchers.

ETA - It's almost as if they think their mere presence in the gym will make them healthier.  FFS.

[QUOTE]I hate that, too AATB. And usually the New Years Resolutioners do the most BS workouts I've ever seen. It's almost as if they're just going to the gym for the sake of going. They're not actually putting in an honest effort. Maybe that's why they don't become habit and they're just a fleeting endeavor. Nebb - that's hilarious about the make a sandwich thing. I wonder if his next goal is "Buy more Coke Zero".

They're usually posted up on placards inside the gym, but rude people tend to ignore them. The signs usually say "Please wipe down equipment when finished", "30 minute time limit on all cardio equipment when there are others waiting", "Please re-rack the free weights when finished". That sort of thing.

  • Our gym is on the second floor of our four story building, so there are offices above and below it. There are signs everywhere that tell the folks lifting weights to not slam them on the floor, but people still do it. It sounds like a bomb goes off when they do that, not to mention the damage to the floor it's causing. My old boss used to run downstairs and yell at people any time he heard them dropping weights (he could get away with it because he was really high ranking).

Stuff like Megh mentioned.  Wipe down your equipment, don't use the equipment longer than appropriate (unless the gym is dead, usually), don't hog the weights.

Things I hate that aren't usually posted though - when the guy running next to me smells like one giant arm pit.  I know we're all sweaty and don't smell entirely pleasant, but there's a difference between that and obviously not bathing between gym visits, FFS.  Or when people leave the incline of the treadmill way up, or leave the cardio TVs on, or move other people's personal belongings from the cubbies.

Or when girls come to the gym dressed in their CUTEST gym outfits, new cross-trainers they'll barely trot on the treadmill in and a full face of makeup.  Not against the rules but yeah, fucking annoying asfuck.
    panther
  • Going off of what AATB posted: when there are 47 other empty treadmills and someone chooses the one rightnexttome. It creeps me out. It makes me want to eat a giant burrito before working out so I can fart them into oblivion as punishment for invading my comfort zone.

Also, loud grunters. If it's so heavy that you have to scream in order to lift it, you're doing it wrong. I can understand a strong inhale/exhale, because that means you're breathing and won't pop a lung or something, but shouting frightens me and is rude.

  • Ah, yes.  The Resolutioners.  The parking lot at the Y will be overflowing for a month, then they all go back to their couches.

My favorites are the girls decked out in very matchy outfits (not workout clothes - 'outfits') who don't even break a sweat, and text or chat throughout the spin class.  I don't want to hear you gossip during class - I'd rather listen to the instructor.

  • OH MY GOD.  YES.  WEAR A FUCKING SHIRT TO THE GYM.  I don't care how in shape you are or how perfect you look with just a sports bra.  You're still not wearing a fucking shirt, you fucking slore ho.

  • I'm pretty sure that my 2011 resolutions were totally fuucked.  I did not think that getting divorced and buying a house were in the cards for this year, so this was kind of a catastrophe.

In all seriousness-- I need to figure out the best way to clean this effing house and keep up with school and work better, too.  General goal: don't suck at life.

I actually much prefer working out at the gym to working out at home, it's a lot more motivating to me. But yeah it does suck sometimes. I usually do exercise classes at the gym or just the treadmill and weights.
    image
  • My goal for 2012 is to care enough.

Sounds strange, but I'm overweight, but I don't care enough to actually exercise.
I eat poorly, but I don't care enough to actually forego the crap for a salad.
I need to save money, but I don't care enough to eat in rather than eat out.
I don't like my commute, but I don't care enough to find another job.

I'm not sure that "care enough" is the exact wording, but it's pretty close.  I need to want the things that are good for me more than I want the things that aren't good for me.  Does that make any sense to anyone?
  • I have a photo album on my FB dedicated to chicks at my gym (matchy matchy, sports bra wearing types). Yes, I'm a Judgy McJudgerson for that, but I'm sure their choices in gym attire have nothing to do with them having cancer/being beaten by their husbands/recent deaths in the family. They're just attention-seeking beyotches who rarely, if ever, break a sweat "working out". And by saying "working out" I mean standing there watching their BF/H lift weights and talking on their cell phones while drinking Muscle Milk.

I swear it raises my blood pressure. I get so pissed off when people can't clean up after themselves. Especially when we make it so easy for them by having a designated spot for everything.
