Centerpieces and seating cards for an all outdoor wedding???????

We are having an all outdoor wedding(both ceremony and reception). There are all kinds of natural trees and flowers all around the area. So I really need help with what I should do for centerpieces. Being that there are already so many beautiful flowers I wanted to do something other than flowers. Any suggestions??

Also as far as seating cards the venue said it is best not to use them because they could blow away if there is any wind. I am not too excited over the seating chart/boards but I have only seen a few but was hoping for some creative ideas for this as well.

I used buckets surrounded by fruit, and we added 2 bottles of wine to each for non-floral centerpieces. I didn't use placecards, but I've seen pretty river rocks painted with guests' names, and those won't blow away. Here is a pic of my centerpiece, and I have more pics in my bio of the entire table set up. GL!

  • I'm not sure when you're getting married, but my BFF had an outdoor reception in October and she used pumpkins. She took regular place cards, used flower card holders (I'm not sure what they're acutally called, but the clear plastic sticks that come in floral arrangments to hold the cards), and stuck them in small pumpkins. It was cute, simple, and they didn't blow away!

If you're doing a favor, you could attach the place card to the favor such as have a candle holder as your favor and tie the card to the candle holder with a pretty ribbon.

That is adorable!!!! I LOVE this idea! I would steal it for mine but we're doing picture frames with pouf balls that look like faux flowers in votives. Lame. haha jk it will be pretty but I really do love this idea!
  • If you're wedding is going to be during the evening candles make beautiful centerpieces and add a romantic glow. Even if you're wedding is during the day candles can be pretty, if you did several taper or pillar candles in your wedding colors I think that would look nice. I've seen wedding where they've used buckets/bowls/vases of fruit for the centerpieces and I think that looks cute. For escort cards you could do painted river stones, small picture frames, do it as a label on their favors. I personally think the river stones are adorable and would probable be quite easy to do, all you would need is a paint pen and stones and alittle time! I saw one wedding where they used compasses for seating cards and I thought that was cute as well.

Love the candles and bucket ideas!

I'd also suggest picture cubes or vases with colered gems and water I've seen both used well. What is the overall them for the wedding?

For place cards you could consider the rocks mentioned before or engraved paper weights which double as a favor.

  • We took an old folding louvered door from a closet, painted it in a color that matched the wedding, turned it upside down, and slipped the folded cards into the slats  :)   It worked really well!
My baby girl is a married woman...and now my baby girl HAS a baby girl. Time unfolds in such an amazing way. I've been blessed!
  • this what we are doing for our seating arrangements. Im taking my bulletin board painting the frame white and covering it wt fabric that matches my wedding theme. then i am either going to wrap it wt ribbion or pin my cards wt pretty cyrstal tacks.

I am making my own centerpieces with dried grasses in a vase. I've also seen wheat bundled together, tied with a ribbon and it stands upright on it's own. I know there are directions on the Martha Stewart website for that.

For place cards I have seen the card tied to a pinecone, or a small pinecone glued to the placecard. Natural and should keep them from blowing away!
