[QUOTE]Luckily my mom has dual citizenship now. It is so much more difficult to move to the US and I know what a frustrating, time consuming, and expensive process it is!

Ledalia, my FI (who is American) is immigrating to Canada, but we can't seem to find any information about dual citizenship.  From the little that we've read, it seems cool in Canada's eyes, but it's the US that seems to not like dual citizens.  I've read that gaining dual through birth is ok (as in, it's ok for babies who are born to parents with different citizenships, or for a baby born in a foreign country, to obtain dual citizenship by birth), but I've never heard of a US citizen being permitted to take on another citizenship through marriage, or any other method.  Can you ask your relatives about this?? We would desperately like to know if FI can have dual citizenship.  If he can have Canadian citizenship, he will be able to work for the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, which is what he'd like to do.  If he is only a permanent resident, he can't.  I already have dual citizenship with Finland and Canada--that info was easy to find and both countries are cool with multi-citizenships.  It's just the US that we cant find info for!

  • I will definitely ask my mom but I know for sure that she applied for this in England and after living there for a while. It still takes time, just like everything else immigration-related.
