Engaged Poll

It seems like it has been a while since we did this, many of you have gotten married and I've seen some new posters.  So questions (there are two posts - married, engaged):

1.  How did you meet?

2.  How long will it be from the time you got engaged until your wedding?

3.  When is the wedding?

4.  What have been your favorite details to plan?

5.  Post a pic with your favorite DIY project (if you have one) or an inspiration pic.

6.  What wedding traditions are you planning to include in your ceremony and reception?

And go!

Hi everyone!  This is my first time posting on this board so I love the poll.

    1.  How did you meet?
    High school!

    2.  How long will it be from the time you got engaged until your wedding?
    One year and one week

    3.  When is the wedding?
    November 13, 2010 (3 more weeks!!!)

    4.  What have been your favorite details to plan?
The ceremony decor probably.  We are using a lot of pumkins and candles and I can't wait to see how it turns out.

    5.  Post a pic with your favorite DIY project (if you have one) or an inspiration pic.

We are using orange pumpkins as the centerpieces and putting my flowers inside.  The candles are in clear glass votives but this was my main inspiration.

    6.  What wedding traditions are you planning to include in your ceremony and reception?
I'm wearing my mother's pearl necklace that my grandfather gave her for her wedding.  Both of my sisters have worn it for their wedding also.

Also, FI's grandmother just called me and asked if I would like to include a engagement/wedding ring set that every bride has put in their bouquet since 1882.  I thought that was so neat!

    1.  How did you meet?
We met at Liberty University in English class, August 2008.  It wasn't romantic...it was American Lit 1...lots of starvation and death in the New World...but it was a study group for a test in that class (which FI "forgot" to invite the other person to) that ended with us talking for 2 hours about our families. One month later we were going out for coffee and talking for an hour or two a few times a week.  He "officially" asked me to be his girlfriend after we got back from Christmas Break.

    2.  How long will it be from the time you got engaged until your wedding?
    Just under 16 months.

    3.  When is the wedding?
    June 11, 2011

    4.  What have been your favorite details to plan?
The ceremony and the music.  We found a script that we liked, and tweaked it just a little.  We have also decided to keep all the ceremony music under wraps until the ceremony. (We'll obviously tell the musicians, of course).  It's the one thing that we can choose together and no one can tell us, "But it would be cheeper/easier/whatever if..."  It's fun knowing that there will be at lease a few surprises for our guests (and families) the day of. :)
Also, FI's dad is doing the majority of the ceremony, and my pastors also have portions they are doing.  Having officiants that have been such integral parts of our lives is pretty cool, and FI's dad is so excited to be involved in his youngest's wedding.

    5.  Post a pic with your favorite DIY project (if you have one) or an inspiration pic.
This is the first mock-up of the pew cones.  We're going to tweak it some, but this is the general idea.  (i.e.- that random white piece will be part of a "border" that will go all the way around on the real ones)

    6.  What wedding traditions are you planning to include in your ceremony and reception?

    Ceremony:
We won't see each other until the ceremony (although, we are doing the picture idea mentioned a while ago--holding hands around a door and praying together before the ceremony)
    Cord of Three Strands
    Traditional Vows
We're doing a Covenant Ceremony (wording in my bio under Ceremony), and we're signing the Covenant with our entire bridal party and pastors during the ceremony.

    Reception:
    First Dance
Dances with parents (my dad & FI's mom)
Anniversary Dance in lieu of bouquet toss
    No garter toss
    Cake cutting
Some dancing after dinner (no group or "contemporary" dances--music is Michael Buble, Frank Sinatra, and some more of those guys)

The flowers, the service and I can't wait to pick out a photographer

We are doing most of the flowers ourselves and we are making flower shaped candies (don't have any pics at the moment)

    6.  What wedding traditions are you planning to include in your ceremony and reception?

My engagement ring was my great grandmother's, my father will be not only walking me down the aisle but also be the officiant, unity candle, Fi's grandmother is making my veil and we are getting married in the same church Fi's parents got married in

    1.  How did you meet? Facebook...somehow, we don't know how, we were "friends" on facebook for well over a year and never talked. FI was interviewing for the FBI and a friend of his, also named Rachel, posted on his wall that she and her husband were praying for him. He went to IM her to say thanks for the prayers, accidently IMed me. I told him he had the wrong person and he goes "Oh...so how are you?" We talked a bit, talked again a few weeks later, he sent me a message asking if I'd ever be interested in meeting up (we lived about an hour apart) because he could tell I was a Godly girl and "obviously beautiful" (aww), gave me his number, we spoke on the phone and 2 days later met up...we've been inseperable since! Laughing

Well, he's the soccer player. He's loved and played soccer since he was basically able to walk. I never played, but I was a huge fan at my college because our team was SO GOOD and, yes, I'll admit, I had crushes on all the soccer boys haha. So I was a fan but never played or 100% understood all the rules (I understand now though) and always hoped I'd end up with a soccer boy...! So he's the player and, like the topper, I'm the #1 fan at all his games, barely ever missing one <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-smile.gif" border="0" alt="Smile" title="Smile" /> We actually played around with a soccer ball (he in a Liverpool jersey, me in a "Team Bride" tshirt) for some of our engagement pictures lol.

@Rachelea... haha, the same!  My FI got me into soccer because he made me watch a lot of games with him.  I must admit, too, I have a thing for some of the players, especially Kaka (not only is he cute, but he's a religious Christian!!)  My FI likes to tease me about it. That's an awesome idea for engagement photos you had.

    1.  How did you meet?
We met at seminary. HIs roommate was a guy I knew from college, so the first day of class I went over to their apartment to see my friend. Then FI walked around the corner... helloooooo sexy... we hit it off well as friends, started hanging out in the same group of people and it wasn't long before we realized the other was totally cute and we totally wanted to date.

    2.  How long will it be from the time you got engaged until your wedding?
Nine months. Intentionally. Neither of us wanted a super long engagement. But we had been talking wedding waay before then.

    3.  When is the wedding?
    June 2011

    4.  What have been your favorite details to plan?
Eloping... just kidding. The food! I have celiac disease and finding a caterer that would make food I can eat was worrying me; the lady we got not only makes food I can eat but its' FABULOUS. FI and I are both food snobs, too... we love to cook. So that was definitely fun. We didn't even know anything about her. My mom found her name on a website, and she was one of three caterers we were hoping to get a tasting for that day. We are planning from out of town and only had one shot to do a lot of vendor research when I was home last spring. Well, the other two caterers cancelled last minute (like, the night before and the morning of!). This girl was the only one who came. But the food was fab and she totally understood my allergy issues. Definitely saw God's grace in those plans...

    5.  Post a pic with your favorite DIY project (if you have one) or an inspiration pic.
sorry :( I got nothing! But we are doing practically everything ourselves. I didn't want to hire a florist or cake baker on principle. So expensive! We're ordering flowers wholesale and making very simple, elegant arrangements for the tables, and the cakes will be homemade or store bought but simple, 9" round cakes. FI and I are making our cake ourselves, with our own recipe, and that way we can make it again and again together for all of our anniversaries :)

    6.  What wedding traditions are you planning to include in your ceremony and reception?
I'm wearing my grandmother's lavaliere, but that's about it. We're not traditional people. THe ceremony will be very simple, one hymn, short homily and then vows. Reception will be simple too.

    1.  How did you meet?  Through mutual friends of ours.  (My longtime close friend and his best friend, who are engaged.)  They tried to set us up before we had even met, and pretty soon all of the people that we were mutually friends with (And there were a LOT of them, surprisingly.) had joined in.  I had always been adamantly against being set up though, and I certainly didn't want to get into my first official relationship because of that, so I continued to deny that anything could ever happen between us.  Once all of our friends gave up and backed off, however, I quickly changed my mind...

    2.  How long will it be from the time you got engaged until your wedding?  Twenty months, two days.

    3.  When is the wedding?  July 1, 2011.

    4.  What have been your favorite details to plan?  Probably the dress.  It was nerve-wracking, but I still enjoyed doing it.  But I think music is going to be the best part over all, aside from the fact that we can't agree on anything...:P  OH!  Something we JUST started working on...the honeymoon!  Yeah, I think that one's going to be my favorite.  ;)

    5.  Post a pic with your favorite DIY project (if you have one) or an inspiration pic.  This is the most complete DIY that I have finished so far...
...but this was from before we changed our wedding date...so it's not quite accurate, and there are a couple other things I still need to change/add.  I plan to get them printed and sent out by the end of next month, though.  I think my biggest DIY will be making our cake...(!!!)

    6.  What wedding traditions are you planning to include in your ceremony and reception?  Not many, ha.  I can't say that our wedding is going to be very traditional at all.  But we will be married by our pastor, at our church, have communion as our unity ceremony...my dad will walk me down the aisle...that's the most "tradition" that I can think of right now, ha.

We plan on having a sand (because of no open flame rule) ceremony, scripture reading, hymns, traditional vows (as well as personalized vows), we aren't seeing each other before the wedding (but I've really liked reading about the holding hands around the door and praying...I'll have to run that by him.), bouquet toss, garter toss, and cake cutting to name a few. I'm sure there will be more along the way that we will include.

This is a great idea! What a wonderful way to get to know eachother :)

    1.  How did you meet?

We met in a friend's backyard in 2004. We were friends for about 6 months, then started dating in April 2005. Been together ever since :)

    2.  How long will it be from the time you got engaged until your wedding?

Engaged March 17, 2010. Approx. a year and 4 months.

    3.  When is the wedding?

    July 9, 2011 :)

    4.  What have been your favorite details to plan?

Everything! Dress shopping was probably the most fun so far, but we have enjoyed every step of the journey so far :)

    5.  Post a pic with your favorite DIY project (if you have one) or an inspiration pic.

I am technologically challenged, so ... lol

    6.  What wedding traditions are you planning to include in your ceremony and reception?

We have a couple ideas, but nothing definite yet.
