Maternity Bridesmaid Dresses

Hi Ladies,

I just found out my FSIL is expecting! I was planning on having my BMs wear J. Crew's silk chiffon bridesmaid dresses, but I'm worried their styles won't work for her since she will be 7 months along by the wedding.

Can anyone suggest some sites that carry maternity bridesmaid dresses?

Thank you in advance!

  • Some of those styles look like they would easily be altered, like the Louisa or the Lucienne.  Since they're loose and flowing in style, I would think they'd be easier to alter than something that's tight and form-fitting.

And I would also ask your FSIL's opinion about it all before deciding anything or trying to push her into something else.
  • David's Bridal and Alfred Angelo have some maternity dresses.
  • Bari jay has sone great maternity options - Congrats and good luck with the dresses!

  • Alfred Angelo has a pretty wide variety of maternity dresses.
  • How about a department store?

  • What size is she usually?  If she's normally a smaller person - some of those JCrew silk chiffon dresses go up to a 20.  I'd imagine that a decent seamstress could alter it down to fit her properly, belly and all, if you buy it oversize enough.  Note that I have almost no sewing know-how so talk to a seamstress :)
  • Thank you for all your suggestions!

The reason I was hesitant for her to get a J. Crew style is that they are pretty pricey to begin with and if she had to get major alterations to accommodate her belly that would add up quick.  I'd hate her to have to spend a ton on a dress she will never wear again since it would be so large.

  • David's Bridal has some maternity dresses that look similar to some of J. Crew dresses. Maybe let her get one there since the prices are better. Then you don't have to worry so much about costs adding up.

  • That's interesting...I was just at David's Bridal and they said they don't offer maternity dresses. I have a BM that will be 9 months at my wedding.
  • ha! this is basically my life right now. my cousin will be about 38 weeks at my wedding! insane, i know. i wanted to do the cotton cady dresses but we actually switched to the silk chiffon because of the options, including some empire-waist ones which are prime for pregnant ladies. i definitely think you make a good point about finding a cheaper dress since she for sure won't wear it again. i'm offering to supplement the cost of my cousin's dress since i really want to go the jcrew route.
