    Dear BF's younger sister,

You offend me. You don't know anybody apart from Indians, but have ideas about everybody - especially Muslims! Stop trying to tell me all these horrible things about other people - black, white, muslim christian, whatever! Your comments disgust me and no matter how much I correct you or disagree, you are not getting it. Open your mind, make some friends that can show you a little bit about the world, or at least just shut your mouth about cultural differences - I AM TIRED OF HEARING IT.

    Signed,

Your brother's horrified and exhausted girlfriend

    FMIL,

We have a rule in this house. Do Not Mess With A Sleeping Baby. Please STOP waking Kidlette up from her nap whenever you come over. Just because you only see her every couple of weeks doesn't mean you need to wake her up the very second you arrive. Her afternoon naps are always less than two hours, and you're always here for four hours, AND she's usually already been asleep for a little while before you arrive. She's bound to wake up sometime while you're here.

It's OKAY to hold a sleeping baby! She's a pretty heavy sleeper, so merely picking her up doesn't usually wake her. You know this, because on Sunday you sprinkled water on her to irritate her awake. And then she wouldn't calm down for you and I had to soothe a pissed-off baby who had been happily and soundly sleeping before you messed with her. Let her alone to sleep!

    Sincerely,
    Your Irritated FDIL

Beloved -- um, whoa, that's kinda nuts!  That said, I remember my mom mentioning that people did that to me a lot (not the water sprinkling per se, but the needless harassment), so I guess a lot of people are really inconsiderate of both baby and mother.

Sonali -- I am so with you on your FSIL's remarks... one of DH's freinds' wives is like that.  She covers all the same groups with her racism, plus a couple more (like Asians and Hispanics) so that she can be even more embarrassing in this area.

    Dear SIL,

Please please please, for the love of God, stop running through money.  If you would eat dal at home instead of meat in restaurants you would save money and probably also lose weight.  See?  Win-win.  DH doesn't want to force you to get married.  Stop backing him into a corner.

    Dear Interviewing Company,

Please make me an offer.  I think you liked me.  You talked for hours.  You clearly need people.  Follow through.

Oh, I was. I had to stop myself from snatching my baby back and yelling at the woman. R was at work; I think I'm going to start insisting that she not arrive till after he's home from work so I have an advocate where the Baby Rules are concerned. Next time I don't think I'll be able to show the same restraint.
