Fun wedding band?

This is my first post here, so please be nice.  :)

We are getting married in February of 2011, in Ann Arbor, and really want a live band.  We've found a few online, but would love to hear who other people are using, personal recommendations, stories, and suggestions....

Do you have a band?  Who are they, what kind of music do they play, and why do you love them??  Thanks!

    Congrats & welcome!

I'm not using one, but we were just at a charity event in Howell that had an awesome jazz band. Their name was Serious Jack. Check them out: http://seriousjack.net/. I've never seen so many people on a dance floor. They played alot of music that I knew, oldies, new stuff. They were really good.

I'm not sure what your budget is, but I do have a band I thought I'd mention.  They weren't in our budget but if I had extra money that is for sure what I would spend it on!  They are called the Killer Flamingos, they play at a few local bars on a regular basis (Ann Arbor, Livonia, Novi), we make it a point to go see them at least once a month.  They play covers of everything from 80's classics to current songs like Lady Gaga, Black Eyed Peas, ect.  The awesome thing about them is that all of the members of the band sing, so the songs sound almost like the real artists are singing.  I  have never seen the dance floor not packed when they play.  Their energy is amazing.  Sorry to rave but I'm pretty obsessed with them!  I contacted them, and they charge $4000-5000 (way out of our budget) but if you have the money they are definitely worth it!  Here is their website: http://www.killerflamingos.com/html.htm

I would second Killer Flamingo's - I believe they are produced by Tangerine Moon Productions and TMP actually host a variety of bands from different era's like the 70's, 80's and 90's. I think you may be able to listen to them online too through Tangerine Moons website :0) GL :) I'm obsessed with the Mega 80's and if my wedding were at ANY other venue than the one we chose we would have booked them in a heart beat. Killer Flamingo's is my second fav 80's band :))

    Congrats & Welcome!

Sorry I don't have a recommendation for a live band but there are a few ladies here that are doing live bands that can help.

In the meantime, if you look at the top of the board there is a post all about vendors - if you scroll through the responses you may find some options.

    Happy Planning.

We're actually using a student group that we found through the University of Michigan School of Music.  Of course, they're students, not professionals, but they are SUPER affordable!  Less than $1000 for the whole evening (5 hours)!!!  That's less than a lot of people pay for their DJ's.  FI contacted someone in the School of Music (I can get the name from him if you're interested) and they sent out an email to all the student music groups, and then the groups started emailing us price quotes and more information about their bands.  We ended up choosing a jazz quartet with piano, drums, bass and vocals.  They have done a number of gigs before, including weddings, and came with great references.  PM me if you have any questions!

We used the G-Daddy's, and they were amazing!  People of all ages were raving about them for weeks after.  They were great to work with as well - totally professional and they handled everything from dinner music to introductions, etc.  Their website is www.gdaddys.com.  Highly recommend!

    Also, welcome and good luck!

Nouveaute! They are Amazing! AND  I don't say that about many bands. IMO, bands at a wedding, are something of the past. (but I understand why people still hire them for weddings)
Starting in May on Thursdays, you can get check them out at Andiamo in Novi. They were voted 3rd or 4th in WDIV's best of Detroit.
The only catch: they are very high in demand and are very expensive. ( I couldn't afford them). I don't know your budget, but if you can afford it, they are totally worth every penny. And if you do... book them early! Good Luck with your search!!
