Soldering Bands

I really would like some insight on how I can get my engagement ring and band to stay together without getting them soldered. My set is a bridal set with diamonds on the top half so I am worried the band will turn alot and I will have to constantly fix it..... PLEASE HELP!

Re: Soldering Bands

  • Get them sized a little smaller and they'll spin less. Other than that, soldering is the only thing I can think of. When I first got my ring it was a size 7 and spun like crazy. Just getting it sized down a half size keeps it in place much better. I could fit a size 6 but I wanted to give room in case my fingers swell.

Soldering the rings is reversible so if you find that the spinning is still too much you can solder them knowing that it can always be undone if you change your mind.
  • Can I ask why you're against soldering?

  • you can have the bottom half of the band "squared" and it will prevent turning.  When I worked in jewelry retail that would have been my suggestion.  The top stays the exact shape that it is now but the bottom half gets kind of flattened and has rounded corners.        **

The squared off bottom is called a Euro shank.
  • Personally, I'd rather solder them than change the shape of the ring.
  • You can also add sizing beads. It will take up spare space (such as in the winter) and help to anchor the rings in place.

Soldering prevents the rings from causing errosion from the friction and prevents a lot of lose and lost diamonds over time.

The squared shaped euro shank is a shank style. You don't just bend a ring. I mean you can...but that will cause the ring to become delicate in the areas that you put extra stress on. Also, euro shanks tend to be a bit thicker overall. <3 mine.
