Frustrated/upset/etc

My infusion/hospital stay has been postponed.

The doctor's office booked the wrong procedure, and got approval for the wrong procedure through worker's comp.  Thank God they called me yesterday and I picked up on it, otherwise I would have been admitted for another Spinal Cord Stimulator surgery!  Talk about a lawsuit waiting to happen...

Well, because they caught it too late (and spent several hours arguing with me on the phone telling me I was wrong about it all), they don't have enough time to get approval for it in time for Monday.  They don't know how long it will take.

I am at my wits' end.  I am not living at this point, just surviving; I was holding onto that infusion for dear life.  I am eating meds like candy, the pain is so bad.  I am devestated.

Prayers, please, tons of prayers for a quick approval- if they can get approval by Monday, I may be able to be admitted on Tuesday and stay through next weekend instead of being discharged on Friday.

I'm sorry Brit!  Just breathe and keep your fingers crossed for a speedy approval.  T&P for you.

Brit- the good thing, is that they're going to try still. They could just say 'no, we can't get anything until next week'. I can tell you first hand how hard it is for an office to get approval for any type of surgery... but them screwing it up is incomprehensible. They'd better be busting their butts to get you in there.

Upside- once you have an approval for one procedure, it should be relatively easy for them to switch it to a different procedure. Normally, it's harder to get a repeat procedure approved, than it is a new one. (Most insurance co's will okay a new one faster so they don't have to keep paying for a pt.)

T&P... I'll keep prayin' for you guys.

Paprika- it's worker's comp, so it's a different approval process.  Unfortunately, they don't care whether I had approval for a separate procedure or not- they don't want to pay, and will make hoop jumping happen for any procedure.  Which most of the time means waiting the max time allowed for approvals.  This is why we went to court and fought for a year and half for approval for the stim; that court hearing set precedence for me, and now at least they have to pay and can't fight it in court, even though they still are allowed to take the max time possible.

the problem is, this doctor's office is HORRIBLE.  The doctor is wonderful, the office crappy.  This is not the first time we have had issues- more like the 5th.  They messed up my stim implant the first time around in Dec 2008, and it has gone on and on and on from there.  They never own up to their issues, and tell the patients it's the patient's fault.  DH told the office manager nicely today that they need to realize they are in the customer service business, and that this wasn't just a wrong script faxed- this was a wrong procedure scheduled that could have harmed a person, and the patient should not have been the first person, 1 work day before the procedure is scheduled, to pick up on it.  Plus, they need to understand why we are upset- which they just can't seem to get.  They told Brian he and I yell at the staff, which we don't- do we get upset and stern when a mistake like this is made, absolutely.  But we don't yell- I wouldn't do that, having been a receptionist myself and DH working in customer service too.  DH told them we are going to record the conversations with them from now on, since they can't seem to tell the truth.  Honestly, that may be the only way to prove to the office manager that the girls there have issues.

Literally, Pap, the one girl told me yesterday that I was wrong and whatever was ordered and approved is right; I told her sternly no, I know what I was told by the doctor and what procedure I was supposed to have, and I know what that isn't the procedure they were telling me was scheduled.  She didn't believe me, until she went to check- and she never apologized for her attitude.

Actually, the doctor himself just called us back and was the first one to apologize for it all.  He told us the best thing to do now is postpone for a week, and have my pain med doctor up my meds; not the best scenario, but I guess it's better than none.

I understand completely, Nvr. We deal with workmans comp as well- yes. They are the hardest to have changed, however it shouldn't take as long as if they were going in for the first time. (I guess that's what I was trying to say, I just didn't word it properly) The office mannerisms are unacceptable though. I'm truly sorry you're dealing with that. I know our girls would have bent over backwards to do anything humanly possible for the pt had that happened. :( I'm glad you love the doc though- sometimes, that's the hardest person to find. And I wanted to ask- I don't know much about your disease, however you've mentioned heat makes it feel better. Would a sauna help? Not a hot tub, but a legit sauna? I just wondered.
