Invitation cost

I'm just in the beginning stages of planning my May 2011 wedding and have realized I don't really know what to expect to pay for many things. About how much are people paying for their invites? Also, are you doing all your printing with the same company (stds, invites, programs, etc...)? Thank ladies!!!

    There really is a wide variety.  You could DIY something simple for really inexpensive (.50/each or less) or you could spend up to $20 each for super fancy invites. 

    Figure out what your budget is total, and use one of the budget calculators to figure about how much you should spend on different things.  Worry about your venue and vendors with set prices first, and then get down to things like paper where you can be really flexible.

    I'm doing all the paper goods myself.  I spent $0.82 each, including postage, on STDs, and $180 on materials for invites, programs, menu cards, and escort cards for 120 guests/75 households.

    Something I forgot when I initially did my paper budget was the cost of stamps.  Minimum you need 2 per invite: one to mail it to the guest and one for their response card.  Thats 82 cents (I think?) per invitation you send.  For the actual invitation, cost varies, like pp said.  I want to keep it under $2 per set.

    I'm not very DIY and I wanted pocketfolds, so I ended up doing research and finding the pocketfold/paper that I wanted. Then I found someone who is going to do the printing and assembling. It's saving me a ton of money over ordering pocketfolds from a stationery or invitation place. Many people quoted me at least $5 per pocketfold (not including the invite, invitation mat, inserts, envelope) but I'm spending around 3.65 per invite and getting a pocketfold, invitation, invitation mat, 3 inserts, and envelopes. I made a post a few days ago with my pocketfold wedding invite research that breaks down the pricing that I found on various websites.
    If you need to save money, you can print at home, do fewer or no layers for the invitation, avoid ribbon details etc.
