How old is too old for a flower girl?

I have 2 daughters, one is 7, the other 9. My 7 year old is usually a little bit smaller than other kids in her class, but my 9 year old is pretty tall. I'm 5'4", and she has to be about 4'8" - 4'9", she is usually taller than other girls her age. When I marry she will be 10 and the other 8, so I'm wondering if they are too old. They both really want to be a flower girl, I just think it might look a little weird being that the oldest is almost to my shoulders. What do you girls think? Maybe I should just make her a junior bridesmaid? But what about the other one? Is she too old, and if not, would it look okay with just 1 flower girl?

I say you can get away with making the 8 yr old a flower girl. Then just make the 10 yr old a jr. BM. This way they are both included. I personally think 10 is a bit too old for a flower girl (especially if she looks older than 10). HTH!!!

Our flower girl is 8 and we're having only one. I looked up the age "limit" for flower girls when we first got engaged because I knew we would want FI's niece to be our flower girl and most articles said 8-9 at the oldest. I think it is because they are supposed to symbolize innocence and whatnot :) I agree with cmp1986 about your other daughter being a jr bridesmaid but ultimately it's your wedding! Do what you feel will make you happy and your girls happy :)

My fiance has 3 daughters and when we get married they will be: 11, 9, & 8.  The 8 & 9 yr olds are going to be the flower girls and the 11 yr old will be a jr. bridesmaid :)  I would have your younger one be the flower girl & older be a jr bm!

I'd let them do what they want. If they both really want to be flower girls, then I'd let them and not worry about what's typical. You could always talk to the older one and ask her if she'd like to be a jr bridesmaid or a flower girl. I'd hate to have the older one jealous that the younger one got the cool flower girl job that she wanted. (I'm the middle of 3 girls, so I'm very sensitive to sibling rivalry!)

I'm having my two cousins as my flowergirls and at the time of the wedding they will be 10 and 6.  So far the older one is just as excited as the little one to be a flowergirl!

I'm late to this one but I agree with the girls: have your oldest be a Jr. BM and your little one be the flowergirl.

Thanks for your help ladies! I spoke with my oldest daughter and she decided that she is too old to be a flower girl and now wants to be a junior BM.

    Hi,
I am late for this also. But, I am in the same boat, my daughter will be 10 next year but she want to be the flower girl so she will be and my son will be 5 but he will be my ring bearer because I see it this way. Wedding is about family becoming one. So, my wedding next year will be the big celebration, 11 years since we've been married with 2 children. So, I am going to break the rules and do what will make us happy as a family. What do you guys think???
