A Good Multi Vitamin and OTC Weight Loss Aides?

I know these boards don't support fad diets, but rather a healthy life style and I agree, but I need a little boost.  I am not currently taking a daily vitamin and was hoping someone might have a recommandation.
Also has anyone heard of Carb Intercept? Apparently it is a natural supplement that helps with weight loss by blocking the absorbtion of sugars.
Or has anyone tried Alli?

Again I realize that for long term weight management, and more importantly, long term health better foods and exercise are the key. I was just hoping there was someone out there that might have a suggestion of how to jump start the weight loss process and help me start to feel better...physically and emotionally. Thanks

Re: A Good Multi Vitamin and OTC Weight Loss Aides?

  • there have been a few posts on here discussing alli - we have a pharmacist or two on here who basically tell everyone what they know about it... and it's not good stuff, so i'd avoid it. we've had several posters who've also used it and had bad experiences. i wouldn't waste my money. imo, if you're going to invest some money into something that'll boost your progress, book an appointment with a nutritionist, or buy a few sessions with a trainer - what you learn from them will outlast any results (if any) that you'd get from scary diet pills. and they won't cause any unpleasant side-effects.

i totally understand what you're dealing with about wanting to feel better. truly i do. but the only way that i've ever felt better in regards to losing weight and being more comfortable in my own skin was through better eating and getting a really good workout. i've done the diet pill route, and i caused myself some serious problems by doing so. i lost weight, and i felt worse than i did when i was heavier. you will get there, but it takes some time and it does take patience. we're here for you though!

  • Two words are all you need to know about Alli.  "anal leakage".

  • Just ask yourself, if there was a pill you could buy, OTC or otherwise, that would make weightloss safe and easy, wouldn't everyone be skinny?

For a multivitamin, just your generic drugstore brand daily one is fine.  It will have all the same things in it as the more expensive brand names.  If you're thinking about TTC in the near future, a prenatal vitamin is a good choice too.

The best way to "jump start" your weight loss is simply to start.  I too tired the diet pill route and didn't even last long enough on them to see results.  I was miserable.  Taking those kinds of pills will leave you feeling the complete opposite of good.  Things that will make you feell good, however, are eating a diet that excludes processed foods and includes lots of whole, natural ingredients.  You will feel good if you pound out an awesome workout.

If you want more bang for your buck in the feeling better about youself in less time, seriously look into heavy weight lifting.  It's been shown many times that women start to feel better about themselves quite early into a program, before you even start to see the results.

Good luck.  You know the right way to do this, and I really hope you choose that route.

  • I agree with raynes.  You know what you should do... And the safest ways are normally the ones that make people feel the best, because it makes you invested.

I also agree that heavy weight lifting is the way to go.  You won't get bulky unless you're on steroids.  I can deadlift about 40 lbs. more than I weigh, and my arms have never been thinner (much less the rest of my body).

I tried diet pills for a little while.  They made me really nauseous, and in the end I just gained weight.

What did it for me, was being broke and not having a microwave, because you have to get really creative with your meals and cooking strategies.  For exercising, it was getting a puppy.  If I don't take him out, he gets really destructive.

But my weakness is still pizza rolls.  That cheese is like lava!

  • I like GNCs Women's Ultra Mega Active.
  • I take supplements with the intent to improve my health only (multi, fish oil, probiotics), I would not try anything to encourage weight loss because they simply don't work and can really be harmful. At the very least they are just a way to flush your money down the toilet, you know?
  • I would recommend one-a-day women's multi or something of that nature. Don't use weight loss aids...they will just mess you up. What really works is good old fashioned diet and exercise. By using weight loss aids, you could really mess up your electrolytes and get a very dangerous arrhythmia. Also, alli causes anal leakage and liver problems.
  • OMG some times I wonder about some of these posts.  ANYWAY!It seems as though they chose not to answer your question but instead tell you that you are wrong for wanting a weightloss supplement.  we all know diet and excersize is the best way to go, but you didnt ask that.  If you dont agree with her way of losing weight why not just bypass her post.  I personally do not think it is anything wrong with wanting to use something to jumpstart your weightloss, I just do not choose to do so and this board does not support that so you probably shouldnt post questions like that here.

  • I take Centrum multivitamin since I'm vegan and it is often hard for me to get all of my vitamins. My only recommendation for a vitamin is don't get pulled in by daily values of 2000% or really more than 67%. I know B vitamins are the "metabolism" vitamins, which is why energy drinks are packed with them, but they're water-soluble. Once your body gets what it needs, you pee out the rest. And Vitamins A, D, E, and K, while important, are fat-soluble and it can be easy to overdose on them, especially if you are losing weight. (Plus you get Vitamin D just by being outside in the sun, so you don't need 100% in a pill). Just keep these in mind when buying a vitamin. Something may look awesome because it has extreme daily value percentages, but you're paying for stuff you'll only pee out in an hour or two. Best of luck!
