Wedding Invitations & Paper

How to address Dr. to married couple with children?

Can anyone assist me in how to properly word the invitation with no inner envelope? (It's a PH.D not a medical doctor)

Dr. John Smith and Mrs. Jane Smith
Johnny Smith and Janie Smith (children, one over 18 living at home)

Thanks!

Re: How to address Dr. to married couple with children?

  • I'd go with:

Dr. John and Mrs. Jane Smith
    Miss Janie Smith

Child over 18 gets own invite
  • Dr. and Mrs. John Smith
    Mr. Jack Smith
    Miss Jane Smith

Don't separate a man's first name from his last name. If you list them separately, put the woman's name first (Mrs. Jane and Dr. John Smith).

  • Thank you! The child over 18 is going to college this summer, living at home currently & the invitations will be sent in March, still send a separate invite?
  • Yes a child over the age of 18 whether they live at home or not always gets their own invite.
  • I don't know what I was thinking.  It is:

    Dr. and Mrs. John Smith
    Miss Janie Smith

If he or she is a medical doctor, it must be spelled out.  Other doctors (Ph.D., etc.) is abbreviated (Dr.).

Any child over 18 living at home should get their own invitation.
