Is March too Cold for an Outdoor Ceremony?

Is late March too cold for an outdoor wedding ceremony (indoor reception) in the Dahlonega area? It would probably start some time between 5:30pm and 6:30pm.
I might consider renting heaters such as the ones found at restaurants if they are reasonably priced.

GA weather is so unpredictable around that time of year. In the past, the weather warms up in March, but it was cold in March this year.

Consider that it's often quite windy, as well. However, sometimes late March is beautiful!

As someone who is having an outdoor ceremony, I wouldn't risk it because of how unpredictable it is. However, if you really want one, just have a backup plan if it's too cold

I second having a back up plan! Ya never know with GA weather!

Where in Dahlonega were you thinking of having an outdoor wedding?  The majority of the outdoor venues have indoor areas as well.

I am too chicken to have an outdoor wedding period. I'm no help. But I agree with PPs about a backup plan, anytime of year!!!

I am with the PP, I would be freaking out in general about an outdoor ceremony!

I figure I'll throw my two cents in from a photographer's perspective. First, I agree that during ANY time of the year, regardless of season, there should be a back-up plan. With that said, I have shot weddings in mid-November that were outdoors and I have shot garden weddings in February that were outdoors. They were all beautiful. The receptions were indoors, of course. As the previous poster said, it all depends on Georgia's crazy weather. However, you could always make Plan "A" inside and with the off chance that it is warm and not windy/rainy make Plan "B" outside. If your dream is to have an outdoor wedding and this ideally what you would like, I say go for it. There's a chance the weather will be fine. Also, I guarantee that 99.9% of your guests would prefer to be at an outdoor wedding ceremony in March than they would in July or August! Trust me :) Best of luck to you!

We're looking at few different wineries. There is a back up plan in case of rain, but I am mostly trying to figure out if and outdoor ceremony would work at all given the temperature even if it did not rain.

I think it would. The actual ceremony is not going to last more than 20-30 minutes. Most people can withstand chilly temps for that duration of time. If you have someone that is very elderly, you can ask your coordinator to seat them just prior to the wedding party walking out. The wineries in Dahlonega are beautiful and I'd definitely recommend taking advantage of their beauty for an outdoor ceremony. Wolf Mountain Winery would work especially well in any kind of weather. I shot a wedding there Halloween weekend last year and it was just stunning. Again, best of luck!
