SAVE THE DATES- When to send?

I am getting married September 30th of this year. I would say about half my guests are travelling here from more than an hour away...when do you think I should send Save the Dates? I am reading mixed reviews....

    if you have a lot of OOT guests, a year ahead is helpful to give them time to make travel plans.  Otherwise, 6 months is fine.

    Most of my guests are from out of town - I sent them out in Feb for an October guests and they seemed to appreciate the time to be able to shop for better rates and travel deals.

    But it is totally up to you.
