Wedding Woes

Peeve

I hate when people guess what word I'm going to say and finish my sentence or say the word at the same time I say it. I have a coworker who does this and I don't know how to tell her to STOP IT! I know what I'm saying, it's not like when someone is reaching and trying to remember a word, there's no pause or anything. It's so irritating.
I also realized on Sunday that old/new supervisor at part time job does this too. I don't know if I can handle two people in my life that do this.

H does this.  I actually threw a Gatorade bottle at him Kuus style b/c he'd done it 3x in a row.  I yelled at him, "CAN I PLEASE SPEAK WITHOUT YOU GETTING IT WRONG?!"

It's always the last word of the sentence, too. If I came up with the rest of the sentence on my own, pretty sure I can handle speaking the last word also. GAHD.

I would tell CW it bothers you, but don't expect them to change.

As for supervisor, you might just have to suck that up. However, if you can come  up with a different word, I would say, "No, actually, THIS is what I was TRYING to say, blah, blah, blah."

I make an effort not to do this with my students that stutter.

I just wait, even when I know what their trying to say.

I... admit to doing this to Boss AND to H.

Not all the time, but with Boss he has medically diagnosed ADD and I get super annoyed waiting for him to come back from whereever the hell he goes in his brain to finish the sentence I already heard him say 8 different ways.

With H it's only when he's watching tv and spaces out mid sentence.

    Still, I feel bad after.

Yes, they don't stutter as much when they are comfortable with the person.

I have a kid that stutters, and spits, but I just back up when I talk to him.:)

I do this to people all the time.  I'm just trying to help them talk faster so we can all get on with our lives. :)

MIL does this all the time.  It drives me crazy.

I don't pause, though. It's when I'm speaking normally. Maybe if I had a pause or was searching for a word I'd understand it. And then they continue to say the word at the same time as me. It makes me want to choke people, though, I swear.

My H stutters (or used to, now that I think about it I haven't heard him stutter in ages) so I know better than to do this to people.

I do it most often to H.  But I challenge any of you to have a conversation with him and not at least be tempted.  The man has been known to eat an entire sandwich mid sentence.
