Blocking hotel rooms

How far out should we look into this? Pretty much all of our guests are OOT. I think it's still soon but my mom keeps bugging me about it. The wedding is next April. What do you think?

Depending on what weekend it is you may want to book early.  And depending on how many rooms you are going to get a block will depend on whether you need to book it earlier. Do you know which hotel you are getting a block at?  If not, I would start looking around now to see who will give you the best deal.  I know the hotel we are using won't book a block until a year out.  I would say anywhere from 4 to 6 months.   HTH.

Just book them now. Get that check off the list and move on, I say. Especially when you're far enough out and you have the time to research prices/shuttles/etc.

I'd just book the block now.  Once I decided on a hotel, I booked the block...and I think it was about 10-11 months before the wedding.

FYI:  I'd stay away from Courtyard Marriotts.  Quite a few girls on here have had some serous trouble/frustration with their blocks.  Myself included.

I booked at about 10 months out, but that's because I wanted to include my info on the STDs.  If you can book now, why not?

As a side note, my sister got married in Saginaw last summer.  She originally booked her wedding for August 1st.  When she went to book her hotel blocks, NO ONE in the area had any open rooms and it was about 8 months out.  Apparently there was some huge Jehovah's Witness convention in the city that weekend.  Seeing as a handful of people would be needing hotels, she decided to change her wedding to August 15th.  Moral of the story: block those rooms before someone else can.

I didn't do this until just before the invitations went out, around 2 months out.  Had no problems - we were able to reserve all the rooms we wanted.  However, I don't see any down side to booking early.  And it sure does feel good to get things off that to-do list!

My wedding is in April next also, and I just did my room block today.  Like some of the other ladies said, I just wanted it off my list of things to do, but also (Just realizing this a week ago) my wedding is on Easter weekend, so I wanted to make sure the rooms where available.

Thanks ladies! We do have one hotel in mind because they offer a free shuttle to our venue. I will definitely be looking into it in the next couple weeks!
