  • @ callalilly: Oof, yeah... I'm relieved that I'll be done with the wedding before I have to start my thesis. I tend to obsess over papers as it as, so my thesis will be tenfold that stress.

@ rice: Haha! I feel ya. When I first started planning a couple months ago, I had such a different vision from the direction we've finally decided to go in. A direction we only really decided on in the last couple of weeks. It'll get easier, promise!
  • @ Sharayah:  No, I'm not from NL, but I'll live there eventually!

@ Stephdonjon:  Yeah... and it's hilarious to me that my family in Boston tell me that the drive just takes *so* much out of them when the rest of the family has to fly for about 12 hours.

Biggest wedding planning challenge thus far: Keeping my FI in budget! He wants so many things and I have to constantly remind him that we just can't do that.
  • @ KlassyWithaK: "Interesting thing about you: I taught my cat to walk on a leash. Just because I could."  Ha! Nice!

Wedding Date: June 22, 2013 (Though I suppose that could change after this year)
    Major:  K-12 Music Education
    School:  Albion College
Year:  Super-senior, one more semester for student teaching
    Residence: Michigan
Interesting thing about you: I got into a fight with a mirror as a baby and lost.  It's ok, the damage was minimal, only two pale scars on my face.  I think it's a funny story.
Biggest wedding planning challenge thus far: Well, since it's so far away, I'm trying really hard not to plan much.  If anything, it's the date.  He wants to wait until he's done with dental school, but I'd rather not wait for four years.  It'll probably be set after he's done with his first year.
  • @ auwon : Welcome to the board! I hope you see more posting from you in the future! 8 hours a day practicing is insane, although I guess I spent quite a bit of time in coaching sessions when I was on the speech team at my undergraduate school.
As for the budget, don't stress. I'm actually more partial to the cute backyard DIY weddings than the platinum weddings. I can't imagine spending upwards of $30,000 on one night, even if it is a special night. The focus should be your love for each other, not the flashy decor and overpriced shrimp platters. :P  As for centerpieces, artificial flowers are an option, too.

Biggest wedding planning challenge thus far: Finding a photographer.  It was the most important thing to me so I put a lot of stress on it.  I finally found an awesome photographer that I love to death and I am so happy and it was well worth it!

  • Wedding Date: April 2, 2011
Major: Accounting (B.S., finance collateral) and Music (B.A.) yup, I'm getting a double degree!
    School: University of Tennessee, Knoxville
Year: 5th year senior, one semester to go!!

Interesting thing about you: I have 2 totally different majors, but will have 2 bachelor's degrees when I'm done in December. Also, I'm already a homeowner! :) which is an awesome start for me and FH.
Biggest wedding planning challenge thus far: getting my parents to give me a concrete amount they will contribute. I know they want to contribute, they just won't tell me how much. it's frustrating!

  • This is neat:-)

    Wedding Date: May 28, 2011
Major:  Political Science: public opinion and survey research, politics and religion
    School: University of Cincinnati
Year:  6-7 year grad student (PhD) (took some time off then went back, looking to defend either this summer or early in the fall)
    Residence:
Cincinnati, OH - I'm originally from Detroit but I've made peace with Cincinnati ;-), and FI is from here, so I will probably stay here long-term.
Interesting thing about you: I enjoy video games...I've started getting into Pokemon on the DS recently
Biggest wedding planning challenge thus far: Budget and timeline. Both FI and I are students and wanted to be finished before getting married, and also neither of us want to spend a ton of money for one day even though it's expected at least on my side of the family.  I've gotten to the point now to where I'm more comfortable with asserting that the vision that FI and I have is in line with who we are, and that's okay (as long as we treat our guests well).
  • @marinabreeze: Hey, you're getting married on my birthday! Also, I love that you've been playing pokemon. Haha.
  • Wedding Date: December 9, 2011
    Major: Child Development/Familiy Studies
    School: West Virginia
Year: 5th year senior, but I will be a 6th year senior by the time I graduate.
    Residence: Morgantown, WV
Interesting thing about you: I'm ambidextrous and tri-lingual.
Biggest wedding planning challenge thus far: figuring out how to pick a winter wedding date that would work for his family(5 hours away and unfamiliar with my hometown area), my family(big into hunting), and my school schedule(the week BEFORE finals! eek!).
  • good idea, ill play
    Wedding Date:
    October 16, 2010
Major: MD/PhD (PhD in Oncological Sciences)
School: University of Utah, Salt Lake City

    Residence: Salt Lake City, Utah
Interesting thing about you: My left eye is two colors -- green and brown, split right down the middle
Biggest wedding planning challenge thus far: Not wedding specific, but I live 2000 miles away from my FI, and from where we are getting married (the place is 5 hours from him, too) so planning has been a challenge. Heck, life is a little challenging being far from him!

Residence: Ohio, for now but may be moving when FI & I get married.
Interesting thing about you: My fiance is in the Air Force (& I'm very proud of him), so 2 out of the 4 years we've been together has been long distance.
Biggest wedding planning challenge thus far: Budget, timing & planning things knowing that things could all change in a second due to the military.
