How far is too far away for a reception?

We're getting married at my home church in Harrisburg (off Linglestown Rd), and we're considering different venues for our reception.  How far away should I look?  Is Lancaster or York too far away?  Also, keep in mind that all of my FI's family and most of our friends are not from the Central PA area so they would be travelling in.. Any thoughts?  Any receptions close?  I'm hoping to go check out the Civic club, but I'm worried about their parking situation...

I always thought a half hour was the max I'd go.  I think anything more is kinda pushing it.  That may just be me though!

30 min max, otherwise people will skip the ceremony and just go straight to the reception. I have been to more than one wedding where people did this, appalling I know.

I think York and Lancaster is a little far and like a pp said, people will skip either the ceremony or reception so they don't have to travel as much

I got married at the Civic Club, and I was worried about their parking situation too, but we had no problems. The parking lot on Front Street had a lot of spaces open on our wedding day, and there are garages within walking distance

Our reception (in Lancaster) is 30 minutes away from our ceremony (in New Holland), so I'm relieved to see people posting that 30 minutes is at least acceptable, if also the max distance. Our reasoning was that it gave us more time for photos while people were traveling between the two sites.

My friend's wedding was in Harrisburg and she had her reception in Carlisle. It was a lil far, but people didn't complain and I don't know of anyone who went to the reception and not the wedding.

I've been to some about 45 minutes away.  It doesn't seem that bad, but I grew up in an area where the closest mall and movies were that far.  You could always look in the closer areas of Lancaster County like Etown or Mount Joy.  We visited places there. Conewago Manor Inn was lovely, but a bit pricy.
