Kinda check...

Hey all!!

I have finally picked where I want to get married and FI and I decided we could make it work for us... I cant decide on a date. I had the wedding coordinator from the place give me all the dates she has available from Nov through Feb of next year... I do not have a set date because I wanted to find a venue I loved first and work around their schedule. I am getting married in Key West and its all outdoors so I was thinking Nov through Feb so it is not blistering hot and I am will not need to worry TOO much about rain.

The dilemma I have is that is the holidays and ALL guests will be from out of town and I cannot afford to help anyone purchase anything because I am paying for this wedding by myself and I have student loans and bills. I cannot afford to help anyone pay for anything which is why I am not having bridesmaids or a MOH. My mom is going to be my witness... Flower girl is niece and ring bear is nephew and they are wearing their church clothes... I dont want to put myself into debt paying for one day.

Do I pick a date away from the holidays where more people might be able to attend and have it be blistering hot or do I go with my original thought and be understanding it people cannot come so they can be with their families around the holidays?

  • I pickle I tell ya.  What is your gut telling you to do?

I don't know your guests, to know if they would be able to come to your wedding if you were to have it close to the holidays, that is something only you know best.

If it were me, I would maybe choose a date in February, so holiday planning and traveling is complete, and you are in a fresh new year.

When you say, all outdoors, you mean, ceremony and reception are going to be outdoors?  I think you may have a possiblity of element issues no matter when you choose your date.  Although we have mostly non-existant winters, we have had a few evenings here or there that could be too cold to have an outdoor reception.  Also, if you were to have a spring/summertime wedding, could be really hot for anything outdoors.  Might want to have a thought of a back up plan, just in case.

I think no matter what date you choose,  your day will still be your amazing day and that's what matters.

  • You are going to hear this again and again....It's your day you call the shots. I personally did move my date twice. Originally I had the last weekend of April but my MOH moved to Malaysia and couldn't be back until September. When the church called me about my September date, I told them I didn't care. Ended up that a close family friend, that's like real family, is Jewish and we were having it on their holiest holiday. Change of date again. Now, no more changes and 70 guests later, I am a very happy bride.

  • Thanks girly!!

My gut is telling me I need to do this in Novermber like I really want too because the weather is amazing, its not too hot or too cold and I didnt think to ask about a back up plan so thank you. I dont know how that slipped my mind... I put that on my to do list!!

I know my friends and I fear no matter when I pick they will not be able to come. They all live out of town and have kids! I do not expect them to come but want to make this as flexiable as possible so I have somebody there for me besides my mom.

    Thank you for your help!!

  • I think you should pick which date your gut tells you to go with. FI & I knew we wanted to have our wedding on a holiday weekend because we have a ton of people who live all over the US & we wanted then to come & make a vacation out of it. We figure that with a year & a half in advance, the people who really want to be there with us will save & arrange to be there...and the ones who can't, we understand. We can only be so flexible! =) There will always be people who won't be able to make it for various reasons, and that's okay! Good luck! x

  • Hey girl, Where are you getting married and when? I think I finally figured out what I wanted to do after I spoke to FI. I talked to the resort and I am doing Memorial day weekend next year and they will put fans out for us and let us use the hobby and lobby if people need to get air but I think over a year is good notice and I will do whatever I can to make this work. This is my dream!!
