Save the Date Postcards

So I am in the early stages of planning my wedding. I actually just got engaged this past weekend and I am searching for ideas for everything. I like the look of the save the date postcards but I wanted to see what other bride to be's out there did or are doing for their Save the Dates! Please help! :)

I don't have any pics, but we did postcard StDs. We designed them with my best friend (who majored in graphic communications), and ordered them from 123print.com. I liked this site becuase they let me buy less than 100 postcards (unlike many other sites).
  • I used photos from an engagement photoshooot on a Shutterfly 4 x 8 photo card.

The text included our initials and a numerical date, then our full names (first middle and last for each of us) and our wedding website url and the phrase "An October 12, 2013 wedding is planned."

They came out to be 10 cents each through promotions and coupons, I received free shipping, and spent $20 on 200 cards. Were they the most artistic? Not really, but they were a good way to use our photos and looked clean. I figure most people will throw them out anyway.  :(

  • I did look at Shutterfly yesterday and was looking at prices. They all seemed kind of high priced, I didn't see anything that was that low of a price. But thanks, I can't really decide what I want to do. I like the postcard idea or maybe a magnet. So many options to choose from!
  • I was planning on doing postcards, but my mom put this fear into my head of them getting lost in the mail more easily than an envelope. Plenty of people do it, though, so I'm sure it would have been fine.

  • We did magnets.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • Where did you buy the magnets from? Or how did you make them?
  • We got them from Vistaprint. I uploaded my own design, and we only paid about $20 for 50 of them.

  • We sent STD postcards to our VIPs only. Ours were from Wedding Paper Divas. I love their colorful designs! We had a lot of compliments on them, and no problems with them being damaged, but there were 2 that were never received. PP's mom is right; they are more likely to get lost, so you need to follow up with your guests to make sure they get the date.
  • We did postcards. Got them from Vistaprint for like $12 total. It was a steal! Keep in mind that postage for postcards are only $0.33!!

  • I haven't sent out my save the dates yet, but I want to use postcards because they are less expensive to ship.  I didn't like the designs on vistaprint or 123print, so I have designed them at magnetstreet.com.  The designs at magnetstreet are so much cuter and can be personalized with different fonts and colors.  They are a little bit more expensive, but since we're doing our own invites, I feel like I can spend an extra $20 on the save the dates.

I'm not too worried about the postcards being lost in the mail because the important people will definitely know when the wedding will be between the wedding website and my constant facebook updates.  :)  But I'm also having a very small wedding.
  • We made our own STDs (a headache, but a fun way to surprise our guests) and had a card that opened with a string that "tied the knot". We're planning on sending postcards with a wedding picture for thank-yous - I would send the postcards if you want! Its SO much cheaper and you save on postage!
  • My FI and I designed our postcard in photoshop and then ordered through www.bayphoto.com. At the time they had a promotion where you got 25% off your first order.  The postcards came with envelopes (which would save them from getting torn in the mail).  I saved the envelopes for the thank you cards I'll be making after the wedding.
