Wedding Horror Stories

I am so incredibly bored at work, and since no one is here, I can't leave :-( so I am silently protesting by being on the knot all day lol...

So, what is the worst (or best depending on how you look at it) wedding horror story you can think of. This can be in regards to etiquitte, bridezillas, crazy families... anything really.

I can't really think of any b/c most of the weddings I went to were as a child, so I wasn't on the "inside track"

Anyway, please amuse me :-)

I went to a wedding about 10 years ago and no one was fed until their was an hour of the wedding left. It was awful since it was a night wedding. People didn't eat until about 10 pm. Needless to say the bride and groom were very upset.

  • The only horror story I can think of is pretty minor, I guess. The bride reprimanded her father all the way up the aisle because he accidentally stepped on her dress. No visible harm was done to the dress, so it was really awkward. :-(

    my brother's wedding.  I was a BM.

Hunter green velvet dresses.  In April in AZ.  We were so hot in those damm things

There was a 3 hour gap.  Even though I'm Catholic, never attended one before.

During the gap we went to take pictures at the reception venue. Okay, cool.  After the pictures were done we were summoned into the venue.  Then the MOB dammed us to setup up the reception.  As in rolling tables into the room, setting the tables up, moving and unfolding chairs, setting the tables, etc.  All in our wonderful green velvet dresses.

They had a headtable up on a stage that was not big enough for the WP.  It was so crowed I had to keep my elbows by my side in order to eat.  One of the GM almost fell off the stages because the stage was too small for the table.

The next day we were told we had to attend a gift opening  party at the MOB's home.  (never heard of those before).  It took 3 hours.  Not because there were so many gifts. they just took a lot of breaks.  Oh and my brother would actually annouce the amount of cash gifts.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.

  • Well, let's see. 125 people rsvped yes to my wedding and 50 people actually showed up. This is after we spend 7000  on food that was way overpriced and cold because she did not bring anything to reheat it. She ran out of food before my H and I could taste a lot of it.

The caterer also said we would have formal dressed staff serving us. She had one woman in blue jeans. She also brought platic plates and silveraware to serve the food. The caterer/ baker screwed me on my cake. The cake she made looked totally diffrerent from what I wanted.  She quoted us a 3000 dollar price for food but at the last min. raised the price to 7000.

The place we had the wedding messed up our music, and treated my guests and BP like sh!t.

My SIL got shitty drunk and made me cry. She also kept yelling that she was the white trash of the family in front of my classmates, family, and friends attending. She slapped my very sweet, submissive MIL in the face. She told my H's ex GF's daughter that she should not be at our wedding (I invited the girl and the ex and the girl was only 12)

My cousin had one of these... I skipped it b/c I was still pissed about his charade of a "wedding" (they were married at a JOP when his lease was up so they could live together then had a big show about a month later)
  • Ang, that sucks.  I've seen you allude to your wedding day before, but I had no idea it was that sad a memory for you.  I'm sorry.

Dammit, I wish that poster who posted the "guests from hell" thread here and on youtube was still around.  Those people were un.believable.  She has since deleted the video from youtube and I haven't seen her here since.

Please tell me you have pictures.

The worst one I have been to as a BM was where they ran out of food while we were still taking pictures.  She had us all at the chapel by 2PM, so I was STARVING.  They also ran out of liquor.  Oh, and their DJ wore a jester hat.  The jester hat really bothered me.

Word. You get a do over. And you can call it a wedding, not a recommitment ceremony. Mulligan.

  • My friend's wedding wasn't horrible but there were some issues, bless her heart:

-dropped the lit candle for the unity candle and almost torched herself
-ran out of food (I think...)
    -complete cash bar
    -dollar dance
-aside from a quick hello at the receiving line she never talked to my family even though we came from 15 hrs away.

My other friend's wedding which I didn't attend but the rest of my family did:
-Groom and brother got in huge fight over music
-Groom's brother fought with groom's FIL over music
-Groom got so angry he just up and left the reception and his bride chased him down the road.

**FWIW, both couples have been happily married for a few years now and are doing great!**

One of the caterers that I was looking at said that they wouldn't provide anything for sparklers b\c one their clients had them and a spark dropped on the bride's hair, went up, and gave her 2nd and third degree burns over her face head and shoulders.

  • Oh they didn't have a DJ, it was a picnic type wedding.  The brother made a really great playlist per the B&Gs request and was going to handle the I-pod for them.  All the sudden the bride's dad wigged out and didn't want any music with words to play and the brother was upset that he spent all that time getting music together only to have the dad change his mind suddenly.  The groom tried to keep the peace by siding with his FIL.

What it really came down to was that the two brother's just get to each other sometimes and both lost it.  They are both really embarrassed about it now.

At my brother's wedding, there was a Senator in attendance since my SIL worked for him at one point... his wife, who is half is age, wore a minidress with no panties.  We know this because she dropped something directly in front of the WP table and then bent over to pick it up and everyone ( I mean, EVERYONE) at the recption saw her.

It was the gossip of the town for a loooooooooooooong time.

  • I worked at a country club in college, and at one wedding the groom got sh!tfaced and started arguing with the DJ. His dad came over to back him up, the groom punched out the DJ, then when the DJ's assistant tried to pull him away the father of the groom went after the assistant. Our manager called the police right after the arguing had started and we were close to a station, so they were there really soon after the fight broke out and took away both the groom and his father in handcuffs. The guests were mortified and cleared out really fast. The bride was a mess at first, but she was actually really understanding about the venue calling the cops and managed to stop crying by the time she left. I've always wondered what happened to that couple.

  • My cousin's wedding.  His bride acted like a spolied child.  She was 17 or 18 at the wedding and they had a 1-year-old daughter.  Yeah, do the math.  She had a wedding dress from the 80s that my mom altered for her and made into something nice.  Th girl didn't even say thank you.  The cake cutting turned into a big cake fight with cake on the guests.  And during their first dance (to Garth Brooks Unanswered Prayers) the MOB and boyfriend started dancing, the bride pulled herself away from my cousin and shoved her mother back to her seat.  If I hadn't been holding my own sleeping child, I would have started dancing with my brother.  And then her sister was found making out with the groom's brother on the roof of their house.  Her sister the lesbian who had just found out she was pregnant.  I'm so glad that the divorce was final a few weeks ago!
  • My best friend's wedding was beautiful. He's a singer and wrote a song for his bride - the ceremony was beautiful and personal, just lovely. BUT things seem to always go wrong for him.

    - First it was an 11am wedding - we got there at 10:45ish and the seats were all soaking wet from dew! My family grabbed a box of tissues from my dad's car and went around drying them up.

    - The wedding didn't start at 11am. At around 11:45 the best man came out and made an announcement that there were dress issues (it ripped) and the wedding was running a little late.

    - There was another wedding scheduled for Noon so we actually had to all get up (100 guests) and go sit on the patio and wait while the other wedding took place. Then we proceeded back to the ceremony area

    - The wedding started at about 1pm and was beautiful but they only had the reception place reserved until 4 so everything had to move really fast once the reception started. No one got to dance at all!

    - When they were cutting the cake a big potted plant fell over onto the bride.

I will say that they were wonderful sports and by the time the plant fell over everyone just laughed because what more could go wrong?
