DJ hassles...experience with LG and recommendations please

I know that there are a ton of posts about DJs, but I want to mention some specifics...forgive me for repeating the request!

We're having the most frustrating time with DJs.  We knew we didn't want to sink a huge amount of time into interviewing tons of DJs to find the perfect one for the best price, so I turned to this forum and saw all of the recommendations for LG.  We thought "Let's just go with it and make it easy on ourselves!"

I know that lots of you girls really like LG and had great experiences, and I'm sorry to have to say this...but we've been so frustrated and aggravated with LG!  After emailing back and forth with Lewis a ton, we finally set up an appointment to meet him.  Well, he was apparently 'stuck in traffic' or something, so we met with Cesar instead.  We really liked Cesar!  Plus he put together a great package for us that we were excited about.  He assured us that either he, Lewis, or Jonny (whom we had met at a bridal show) would be available on our date.  He said Lewis would get back to us with the availability of the guys and the contract paperwork.

Well, we waited and waited...and wrote a few emails and left a few voicemails...  Eventually I got fed up with waiting on Lewis and wrote to Jonny, since we had his email and that was the only way we could get a hold of someone.  He said that he was available, and would talk to Lewis to get the contract taken care of.  Well then Lewis got in touch with us as well!  He said that Jonny was booked (but Jonny didn't know it yet), and that he and Cesar were too.  So he assigned someone else we hadn't heard of, we made a comment about wanting one of their original guys (since they apparently have some newer ones), and he reassigned us to Steven.  We were supposed to get the contract on Monday...I emailed him on Wednesay asking about it...yesterday I emailed Steven (who had been cc'ed on a previous email and Lewis told him to get in touch with us) to just say hello.  Well then Lewis responds to the email I sent Steven (does Lewis read everyone's email?) with the contract.  The contract doesn't say who our DJ is, which concerns me.  Altogether, we've been trying to make this happen with them for over 6 weeks.

I'm sorry to have to write a bad experience, but we've just been so frustrated, and feel like we're getting the run-around and like they don't really care about getting our business.  It just makes us so nervous and we're not sure they're worth the hassle and worry.  Is this seriously how they always work?  It just seems incredibly unprofessional to us.

So...please send me your recommendations for people other than LG.  Problem is, we really like their club strategy of blending songs and beats to keep the party going.  Anyone else do that too?  We have some information on JPL and they seem easy to work with...anyone used them?

Sorry for such a long post, and thanks in advance ladies!

LG is worth the hassle BELIEVE me. We kind of had some communications problems in the beginning, but it all worked out at the end. We didn't know who our DJ was until a couple months before and we met him exactly a month before the wedding and constantly followed up with the DJ who was going to work at our wedding and we CCed Lewis on all emails. I was very very nervous because of the lack of the communication at the beginning, but that changed very quickly. We had a lot of specific needs/dances and they succesfully made them happen. I was very happy with there actual service. I do agree they need to work on their communication skills. They can keep a partying going.

If you are uncomfortable I would recommended Pete's Mobile DJ he has a similar club vibe like LG. We were going to book him, but we liked the package we had better with LG.

I am sorry for your frustrating experience so far. I hope it all works out.

STBMrsMartin, thank you so much!  Maybe it is worth it.  Other ladies, do you agree?  And does it not matter which DJ you end up with?

I haven't had my wedding yet, but can confirm that initial meetups were hard...They just set up a new office, so we had an initial mtg cancellation that had to be made up the next day. Once we had the meeting though, everything went smoothly, packages were great, and deposit and contract process was easy.

Sorry about your experience thus far. I don't know too many other DJ's in the area. LG came from a recommendation on these boards and my planner.

Like in the message I sent you, I had pretty much the same experience as STBMrsMartin -- I didn't know who my DJ was until a month before the wedding. But once I knew him, he game me his cell phone and email so contact got better.

I didn't really care that much about DJ's (my string quartet was my fav musical part of the day) so to me, it didn't matter what DJ I ended up with as long as he played the music I wanted. And in my case, mine did that so I was happy!  Hope this helps!

I don't think it matter who your DJ is as long as you find out at least a month before or sooner. Then you get let them know your style of music and what you are wanting. We had only met our DJ Jason just once and he did an incredible job. I had so many compliments on how great the music was. People who never dance was on the dance floor.

Lewis has all his DJ's trained his style so I don't think who the DJ you have the day of would be a problem. Just make sure you meet with him prior to the wedding. Doesn't matter what company you go with.:-)

I used DJ Senega, and he was fabulous!  PM me if you want his number.... he did a blend of songs like you mentioned, and everyone danced the whole time!

We had terrible communications with them at first too. We arrived on time to meet with them, and 50 minutes later they showed up after one call saying they were stuck in traffic. Pissed me off and made me really not want to work with them, but with the price we were getting, bonus freebies (uplighting), and reviews here, we decided to use them. We know who we are getting, so luckily I don't have to worry about that. But we have yet to sit down and talk about the evening, type of music, playlists etc...

Not sure who's ball the court is in after the deposit has been given!

I think LG's problem is that they stay SO busy and I think sometimes its hard for Lewis to handle. I tried emailing them during my original wedding plans and I never got a response. I was working with a wedding planner who set up a meeting for us with Lewis. I think what they lack in communication, they make up for in personality and presentation. I went to an open house of theirs and they were really awesome. I would LOVE to have LG DJ my reception but they are now way out of my price range.

We would've had Caesar with my original wedding plans (before I had to start over). I would say that they are worth it in the end.

    Good luck!

I've heard of  MC Wayne and DJ Tera and that they work very well together and are true professionals. I'm also working with a DJ that has been in the business for 10 years and is a friend of the family. He has pretty good rates and very in tune with weddings because thats all he really does. If you are interested email me. I don't have his information with me right now but I'll get it for you if you want.

We used LG and Steven was our DJ. He did an okay job, but he didn't really read the crowd that well. People seemed to be getting up to dance to the country songs but then he didn't play a lot of country. I'm sure he was just trying to mix things up, but he had some bizarre choices at times. When he had to MC he did a good job.

If I had it to do again, I probably would have looked at more DJ options. At the time, that was one area where I didn't want to spend my time so I just went with LG because we liked them at an open house and they had received such great reviews.

Here's an update in case anyone comes back to read...we DID go ahead and book with LG.  Your advice helped a lot!  We finally managed to get an appointment, met Steven our assigned DJ (who didn't really impress us that much...but that's not all that key), and due to Lewis knowing how frustrated I had been, even threw in a secondary sound system for the ceremony.  So, we did it!  Will post vendor reviews afterwards of course!
